Salary range: $24.32 - $34.04 per hour Job Description The Special Assets Officer is responsible for effectively managing delinquent real estate loan accounts, overdrawn share accounts, repossessions, asset recovery and bankruptcies. This role minimizes loan losses and risk to the credit union while ensuring the best possible outcome for both the organization and the member. It requires a strong knowledge of department policies and a high degree of independent decision-making within established guidelines. Core Job Requirements/Outcomes - Manage specialty collection portfolios by promptly contacting members, addressing delinquencies, coordinating recovery actions, and minimizing financial risk through consistent monitoring and resolution. - Recommend loss mitigation strategies by evaluating risk through thorough assessments of account information and recommending appropriate recovery actions. - Support legal recovery efforts by working with attorneys and third-party vendors to ensure timely and accurate referrals for bankruptcies, foreclosures, and repossessions in alignment with policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines. - Maintain compliance, documentation integrity, and department performance by ensuring all account activities adhere to FDCPA, TCPA, FCRA UDAAP, bankruptcy codes, internal controls, and established service level agreements (SLAs). Other Essential Functions - Build and maintain member trust by delivering empathetic, professional communication during financial hardship and asset recovery discussions. - Stay current on regulatory changes by attending training and applying knowledge to ensure all processes comply with applicable laws and investor requirements. - Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors by supporting workflow continuity, sharing knowledge, and assisting with workload management. - Foster a collaborative team environment by participating in team initiatives, supporting cross-training, and proactively identifying opportunities for process improvements. Qualifications Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Certifications: Consumer Credit Counselling Certificate preferred. Job Experience: Minimum three years’ experience in real estate and/or consumer collections, or relevant experience in a financial institution required. Software Skills: Previous experience with PACER, COVIUS, FREDDIE MAC SERVICING and Temenos is desired. Proficient knowledge of MS Office programs including Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams. This position also performs intermediate support to ensure efficient operations of the department and assists with troubleshooting and researching department issues. Core Job Requirements/Outcomes - Maintain regulatory compliance and prevent losses to members and credit union by adhering to documented procedures, accuracy standards, established deadlines, service level agreements, and department standards. - Assist Specialist and Senior level staff on departmental and STCU projects by completing assigned tasks - Perform primary telephone support by adhering to all service level agreements and assist members and employees through all support channels with professionalism, compassion and respect. As a senior level position, this role works independently while also providing mentorship and support to other roles as needed. Core Job/Requirements/Outcomes - Demonstrate full proficiency and knowledge of home loan underwriting guidelines and maintain compliance with all regulatory standards by staying up to date on all applicable agency rules, investor guidelines and STCU product guidelines. - Determine borrower ability to repay and, property and program eligibility by reviewing and analyzing income documentation, asset documentation, credit reports, appraisals, AVMs, title reports, etc. as well as validating AUS findings. - Ensure alignment with STCU’s risk-tolerance standards and portfolio quality by applying strong problem-solving, sound judgment, and rigorous scrutiny to analyze the suitability of exception requests and complex loans—such as construction and jumbo loans—and recommend approval or denial as appropriate. - Maintain compliance with the department business plan by meeting applicable service level agreements and established production goals for number of loans underwritten. Other Essential Functions - Act as a senior member of the underwriting team by providing key feedback, mentoring and training to loan officers, processors and other underwriters when needed. - Serve as a representative of the Home Loan underwriting team in various STCU projects, committees and/or CI initiatives - Complete various on-going third-party training requirements as needed to maintain knowledge or as assigned by VP of Home Loan Underwriting. - Contribute to the development of STCU's culture and strategic vision; the achievement of organizational goals; and support and emulate the STCU Core Values. - Exercise strong communication skills by communicating loan decisions effectively and timely within established standards. Responsibilities will include managing, analyzing, and reporting on bills and policy issues that impact credit union members, employees, and the community for Washington, Idaho, Oregon, and at the federal level. Duties include: preparing a comprehensive weekly report summarizing legislative activity relevant to the credit union, researching and summarizing material on emerging and existing legislative issues as it pertains to credit unions, education, and other related matters; assisting in coordination of legislative travel and appointments; and supporting CI&A team on special projects and tasks. This position can be fully remote, hybrid, or in-person (Liberty Lake, WA). Some periodic travel to an STCU location (STCU Headquarters in Liberty Lake) may be required. Qualifications Required: - Candidate needs to be an enrolled college student for the entirety of the internship and seeking credits, through Spring 2027 (Masters/law students OK). - Currently working on a degree in Political Science, Government Relations, Public Administration, Economics or Law, Business Administration or similar. Or, an intended career path in politics or government relations. - Versatile to work in a small team as a contributor and self-starter - Knowledge in public policy, the legislative process, and advocacy related topics - Analytical and research skills, ability to take complex legislative and policy information and synthesize it into high level executive summaries - Ability to turn around projects quickly, and work on tight deadlines - Organized and good at helping others get organized - Excellent written and oral communication skills - Excellent verbal, organizational and writing skills. - Professional work ethic and independent time management skills - Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and Forms. - Reliable transportation needed.
