This is a remote position. Job Title: Procurement Specialist Employment Type: Full-Time Position Overview A transportation and logistics organization is seeking a Procurement Specialist with direct experience in drayage and intermodal logistics. The role partners closely with operations, dispatch, and leadership to control costs and maintain service reliability across high-volume container movements. Key Responsibilities Carrier Procurement and Sourcing • Build and manage a reliable carrier network for port drayage and regional container moves • Source capacity across key port markets including NY/NJ, Savannah, Charleston, and others • Evaluate carriers based on cost, service, compliance, and consistency Cost Control and Margin Management • Analyze lane-level costs including drayage rates, chassis usage, fuel, and port-related fees • Monitor and control accessorial costs such as detention, demurrage, and per diem • Identify and eliminate cost leakage across shipments Rate Negotiation • Negotiate spot and contract rates with carriers • Ensure competitive pricing while maintaining execution reliability • Continuously rebid underperforming lanes and vendors Operational Alignment • Partner with dispatch and operations teams to validate execution costs against pricing • Resolve carrier failures, missed appointments, and service issues • Support high-volume container flow with urgency and accuracy Vendor Performance Management • Track carrier KPIs including on-time performance, cost adherence, and service reliability • Remove underperforming carriers and strengthen the vendor network Systems and Data Management • Maintain procurement and carrier data within TMS and internal systems • Support cost modeling and pricing accuracy Requirements • 5 plus years of experience in drayage, intermodal logistics, port operations, or carrier procurement • Strong understanding of import and export container flow • Knowledge of port operations, constraints, and scheduling environments • Deep understanding of accessorials including detention, demurrage, chassis, and per diem • Proven experience negotiating with carriers or logistics vendors • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, high-pressure, high-volume environment • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on cost control Preferred Background • Direct experience in NY/NJ port drayage markets • Existing carrier relationships within major port regions • Strong commercial mindset with the ability to challenge pricing and protect margin • Experience working cross-functionally with operations and dispatch teams
