The Role As a Senior Lead Database Administrator, you will be responsible for all aspects of administration, security, backup and recovery, performance tuning, and data replication in our database environments – focused on MongoDB, but can also include Oracle, MySQL, Cassandra, Couchbase, and Postgres. This person will provide strategic guidance and advanced troubleshooting for complex application/database challenges. You will be a part of a hybrid DBA support model (onshore/offshore) working closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, product managers, and operations, to ensure the scalability, performance, and reliability of our systems. Short Description This is a work from home position within the US. The Main Responsibilities - Provide expert technical direction in the creation, delivery and integration of multiple and complex database solutions for a design and/or production environment. - Consult and collaborate with multiple teams in the following areas: Design - design database solutions, convert logical design into physical database, perform problem determination and resolution, and perform database design process and reviews. - Production - perform database management, resolve database problems, and provide database security. - Explore and evaluate new and emerging technologies relating to the design and/or production database environment. Develop and drive overall DB solutions and strategies. - Evaluate and recommend new Database tools and emerging technologies. - Create DB standards and processes. - Consult and collaborate with Architecture and Infrastructure on IT wide solutions. - Lead complex outage analysis and resolution. What We Look For in a Candidate - Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and relevant experience. - Ability to achieve GSA suitability (government security clearance). - MongoDB experience from version 4 to version 8 and MongoDB experience with self-managed environments using community edition. - Experience doing rolling patching of MongoDB environments and experience installing and configuring MongoDB. - Experience creating and managing replica sets, adding/removing members, setting priorities, etc. - Mongo database utilities such as mongosh, mongodump, mongorestore, mongoexport, mongoimport, mongosync. - Analyzing performance on mongo environments, including identifying collection scans, index usage, and long running operations. - Experience managing Mongo Atlas managed environments. - Experience migrating existing databases to Mongo Atlas and experience using Mongo Ops Manager a plus. - Experience with Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, managed database services such as DocumentDB and CosmosDB. - Experience with coding and automation technologies such as terraform, ansible, and Gitlab and Excellent organization, oral and written communications skills. Strong interpersonal skills and experience working in a large DBA team. - Good design, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities and the ability to understand end user experience. - Naturally takes ownership of projects and drives them to completion with high-quality outcomes. - In-depth knowledge of multiple database technologies. - Ability to lead integration between technologies and drives continuous improvement; may include design, standardization of processes and methodologies. Lead design reviews for the database designs, database access methods,and pre- and post- implementation capacity meeting; estimate sizes of new databases. Preferred Qualifications: - Experience in Oracle 19c and 12c including RAC, ASM, OEM, GoldenGate, Data Guard, and RMAN. - In-depth knowledge of multiple database technologies, and experience leading integration efforts between technologies. - Experience with MySQL database administration and Datastax/Cassandra experience, including Astra is a plus. - Couchbase experience, including Capella is a plus. Compensation This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.
