Evaluates accounts for risk selection and pricing purposes. - Analyzes exposure, company and region risk appetite, account premium and loss history, financial data, line(s) of business, price guidance, motor vehicle records, online sources of information, reports from Premium Audit or Loss Control and other relevant information to underwrite policies. Offers appropriate coverage, terms and conditions for exposures. - Develops and fosters agency relationships. Educates agents on EMC products, underwriting appetite, systems, and services. - Visits agencies to discuss accounts and provide agents with updates at EMC. Collaborates with marketing representatives to ensure agents receive excellent customer experiences, responsiveness, and select EMC as their insurer of choice. - Effectively communicates risk acceptance and/or rejection decisions to agents. - Collaborates with experienced underwriters to continue to develop understanding of company and regional risk appetite. Consults experienced underwriters to ask questions and gain understanding in underwriting best practices. - Participates in the agency planning and review processes with marketing and regional management. Monitors progress of assigned agents and guides agents in achieving annual goals. Education & Experience: - Bachelor's degree, preferably in insurance or business administration, or equivalent relevant experience - One year of experience in commercial lines underwriting or related experience - Insurance designations, such as AINS, AU, CIC, or CPCU preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: - Strong analytical, decision-making, and negotiating skills - Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions - Strong customer service skills - Ability to work effectively with others, as well as independently - Ability to maintain high standards of professional competence - Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office and social media - Ability to work on multiple projects while meeting deadlines - Strong written and verbal communication skills - Occasional travel; a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report per company standards required if driving The hiring salary range for this position will vary based on geographic location, falling within either of the following: $60,813 - $84,038 or $67,200 - $92,395A hiring range represents a subset of the full salary range. The actual salary will depend on several factors, including relevant education, skills, and experience of an applicant, geographic location, and business needs.
