Role Description We are looking for a Senior Epidemiologist to manage and analyze critical health data related to environmental diseases and conditions for the Florida Environmental Public Health Tracking program. In this role, you will play a vital part in monitoring public health significance through various data sources, including: - ESSENCE-FL - Hospital Discharge Data - Emergency Department Data - Vital Statistics - The Florida Birth Defects Registry - The Florida Cancer Registry Preferred candidates would be located in Tallahassee, Florida. WiredPeople is open to remote candidates residing within Florida state lines. Qualifications - Working knowledge and deep understanding of public health scientific principles and policies related to epidemiology. - Proven capacity to effectively prioritize workloads and consistently meet project deadlines. - Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the interpersonal finesse required to collaborate seamlessly with various staff members, program partners, and external agencies. - Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple complex priorities and projects simultaneously. Requirements - Data Analysis & Surveillance - Review existing API feeds and data sources concerning air, water, and soil quality conditions of public health significance. - Analyze trends over time for environmental health conditions. - Monitor data submitted to the Florida Tracking site and data explorer portal. - Work alongside the integration broker to ensure submitted files are accurately received and displayed. - Troubleshoot system connectivity, evaluate data anomalies, and propose solutions to system bugs. - Reporting & Technical Assistance - Produce and disseminate annual summary reports using data from the Agency for Health Care Administration and Vital Statistics. - Provide technical assistance, consultative services, and direction for the development, implementation, and evaluation of environmental health data sources. - Support the compilation of performance metrics for the Environmental Public Health Tracking Cooperative Agreement. - Assist county health departments in designing and evaluating health initiatives aimed at improving environmental health indicators. - Summarize weekly activities and present key findings. - Collaboration & Policy Development - Create and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to environmental health conditions. - Serve as a primary liaison in 3 different areas. - Ensure strict compliance with all Department data security and confidentiality procedures. Role Description This Surveillance Epidemiologist is a member of an interdisciplinary team of epidemiologists and public health consultants assisting Florida in reaching its strategic public health goals. Preferred candidates would be located in Tallahassee, Florida. WiredPeople is open to remote candidates residing within Florida state lines. - Serve as a subject matter expert on influenza, respiratory syncytial virus, coronavirus disease 2019, and other diseases of public health significance. - Manage, analyze, and summarize disease surveillance data from a variety of sources and systems, including syndromic surveillance data, mortality data, outbreak data, and laboratory data. Help to improve and implement changes in these systems. - Manage and report Florida’s data in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) disease surveillance systems. - Respond to respiratory disease-related inquiries from the media and public. - Assist county health department (CHD) epidemiologists with investigations of deaths and other disease case investigations. Coordinate laboratory testing and report data to CDC as needed. - Provide written and verbal guidance to CHD epidemiologists reporting disease outbreaks in Merlin, Florida’s reportable disease surveillance system. - Review disease outbreak reports in Merlin. - Assist CHD epidemiologists with conducting respiratory disease surveillance in their counties, including reporting of activity levels to the state. - Conduct yearly trainings for CHD epidemiologists on disease surveillance. Produce and distribute resource packets to CHDs to support county-level disease surveillance activities. - Communicate disease surveillance information at regular meetings with colleagues at CHDs and at the state office. - Coordinate grant-related activities, including ensuring all deliverables are met, submitting quarterly reports, and writing a yearly application. - Serve as a liaison between the various sections within Florida's public health departments. Qualifications - MPH, MSPH, MS, or equivalent degree in epidemiology or a health-related field. - Excellent written and oral communication skills. - Strong data analysis and data visualization skills and a firm understanding of public health surveillance, syndromic surveillance, and surveillance system evaluation methodologies. - Experience with analysis software such as SAS, SQL, Access, R, and/or other analytical tools.
