Role Description The Summer Intern will support Vigilant Global Trade Services across a range of initiatives spanning global trade compliance, business operations, and strategic growth. This role is designed to provide hands‑on exposure to real client work, internal processes, and key business initiatives within a fast‑growing, tech‑enabled managed services firm. Key Responsibilities - Assist with global trade compliance activities, including research related to import/export regulations, tariff classification, and restricted party screening - Support data analysis efforts tied to client deliverables and internal projects - Contribute to development of new service offerings, including pre‑entry audit and partner‑driven solutions - Conduct market and competitive research to support business development initiatives - Assist in documenting and improving internal workflows and standard operating procedures - Participate in internal meetings and strategy sessions, with exposure to leadership discussions - Support content development for marketing and thought leadership initiatives (e.g., TradeBuzz) - Complete and present a defined summer project with visibility to senior leadership Learning Objectives - Develop a foundational understanding of global trade compliance and its role within multinational organizations - Gain exposure to a managed services operating model and client service delivery - Build analytical, problem‑solving, and professional communication skills - Understand how service offerings are developed, positioned, and brought to market - Learn how high‑growth companies structure operations, teams, and strategic initiatives Qualifications - Current undergraduate student (Business, Economics, Supply Chain, International Business, or related field preferred) - Strong analytical and critical thinking skills - High attention to detail and organizational ability - Effective written and verbal communication skills - Self‑motivated with a proactive approach to learning and problem‑solving - Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines Performance Expectations - Demonstrates reliability, professionalism, and accountability in all assigned work - Actively engages in learning opportunities and seeks feedback - Produces high‑quality, accurate work with attention to detail - Contributes positively to team culture and collaboration - Takes ownership of assigned projects and follows through to completion Summer Project – Strategic Initiative As part of the internship, the intern will own and deliver a defined summer project aligned with Vigilant’s growth strategy. This project is intended to produce work that can be implemented or directly influence decision‑making at Vigilant. Project Objective Develop a clear, structured point of view on where Vigilant should focus and how the company can operate more efficiently, supported by practical analysis and actionable recommendations. Focus Areas - Market Analysis – Target Industries & Ideal Customer Profiles - Identify and prioritize 2–3 target industries where Vigilant has the strongest opportunity to win - Define characteristics of ideal customers (size, complexity, trade exposure, decision‑makers) - Analyze market dynamics, competitive positioning, and potential entry points - Provide a clear recommendation on where to focus and why - Process Mapping – Core Service Line Efficiency - Select a core Vigilant service line (to be determined during onboarding) - Document the current‑state workflow from intake through delivery - Identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and opportunities for standardization or automation - Propose a streamlined future‑state process with practical improvements Key Deliverables - Structured analysis with supporting data and insights - Clear, practical recommendations - Process maps (current state and future state) where applicable - Concise, executive‑level presentation summarizing findings Success Criteria - Clear, logical thinking and strong attention to detail - Recommendations that are actionable and grounded in reality - Ability to simplify complexity and communicate it clearly - Ownership of the work from start to finish Presentation At the conclusion of the internship, the intern will present findings and recommendations to Vigilant leadership. Reporting Structure The intern will report directly to designated team members and will have exposure to senior leadership, including involvement in select strategic initiatives.
Role Description Work closely with the management team as an extension of our client’s global trade compliance organization to ensure the legal compliance of various global trade activities per our client’s established policies and procedures, while adhering to Vigilant’s core values. - Identify and classify with accurate Export (ECCN, Dual-Use) Classifications for the client's products. - Identify and classify with accurate Import (HTS, HS) classifications on client’s products, providing the respective PGA, FTA, and Duty information as required by the client. - Processing of daily export and import operational transactions, per the client’s policies and procedures. - Responsible for monitoring queues and disposition thereof in a timely manner ensuring that all items are worked through to completion or escalated as necessary. - Ensure work product is at the highest level of accuracy and timeliness. Other Representative Job Duties may include: - May perform due diligent checks and clearances on blocked orders and parties while monitoring blocked order queues in the client’s global trade system. - May work with client’s customs broker to assist in import clearance issues, perform post-entry amendments, and fulfill PGA licensing requirements per the client’s policies and procedures. - Review/Audit import and export transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance with the various regulations. - Responsible for working with Scientists and Engineers to ensure products are classified properly, if necessary. - Responsible for executing Export and Import controls as directed by the Client’s Policies, Processes and Procedures. - Responsible for immediately reporting any account technical issue(s) (i.e. enterprise software, proprietary screening software). - Responsible for monitoring client and Vigilant emails. - Timely escalation of any client issues that you are unable to resolve. - Execution of any additional requirements per client’s processes and policies. - Must continue to study relevant federal regulations and to continue learning in a rapidly changing regulatory environment. Qualifications - Must have strong experience classifying hardware, software and technology with their appropriate Export Classifications (ECCN, Dual-Use). - Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Business or related field. - Professional Experience: Minimum 1 to 3 years’ experience in a global trade compliance environment. - Must have a high proficiency in U.S. HTS Classification, with experience in International Classifications as well. - Proficient with import and export trade compliance processes, policies, and controls. - Knowledge of global trade automation solutions (SAP, Oracle GTM, Amber Road, Etc…). - Attention to detail skills required. - Excellent analytical and organizational skills with the ability to perform the day-to-day account activities independently with minimal supervision. - Must be able to organize and prioritize work in a dynamic and complex environment to meet deadlines and daily requirements. - Proficient with Microsoft Office products including but not limited to Outlook, Excel, and Word. - Ability to communicate (verbally and written) effectively with clients, coworkers and senior leadership. - Ability to work effectively with teams of staff from Vigilant, partners, and clients. - Strong customer relationship skills. - Ability to work cross-functionally with Sales, Finance, IT, Import and Export personnel, Operations and Legal executives to achieve business objectives. - Professional Certificates, Licenses, and Training a plus. Role Description This is a working account manager role where the account manager is required to work alongside the rest of the team. This is not solely a management role. The Account Manager will work closely with the Director of Global Trade Services & VP of Global Trade Services to deliver client-related solutions and services specified within the scope of the client’s SOW. Serve as an extension of our client’s team or organization and ensure compliance per our client’s established policies, procedures and risk tolerance, while adhering to Vigilant’s core values. Ensure the team’s highest level of quality while maximizing bottom-line profit. Primary Job Responsibilities - Serve as the client’s primary point of contact for all communications and account activities. - Classification of client products with their respective Worldwide ECCN & HTS/HS classifications as defined by the SOW. - Research and identify possible PGA and FTA requirements for the client products. - Responsible for the daily management and delivery of all solutions and services specified within the scope of a Managed Services Program and adherence to service level agreements (SLAs). - Responsible for communicating the request to perform any support request outside the scope of a Managed Services Program or Project to the Director of Global Trade Services &/or VP of Client Success. - Ensure tracking of all relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). - Provide weekly and monthly operational updates as specified by Director of Global Trade Services & VP of Client Success. - Responsible for coordinating, preparing and delivering Quarterly Business Reviews as specified by Director of Global Trade Services & VP of Client Success. - Perform and ensure the highest level of quality in the delivery of services to the client through Weekly, Monthly and Quarterly audits of the team’s work. - Other duties as assigned or required by the client specific SOW. Other Representative Job Duties - Manage overall change control processes, perform audits and quality assurance as specified by VP of Global Trade Services to ensure client and employee satisfaction. - Ensure work product is at the highest level of accuracy and timeliness. - Proactively follow-up with clients to monitor effectiveness of team performance. - Participate in scheduling, recruiting, mentoring, training, hiring and firing of team members. - Responsible for the accurate and timely submission of daily hours for all team members. - Responsible for learning and leveraging technology in the delivery of all solutions and services specified within the scope of the Project/Program. - Responsible for monitoring and responding to client and Vigilant emails in a timely manner. - Responsible for answering and responding to client and Vigilant cell phone calls in a timely manner. - Ensure the optimal and efficient allocation of resources to maximize profitability while ensuring client satisfaction. - Develop and implement personal and team Back-Up/Disaster Recovery plans. - Oversee cross-training of team to increase compliance skills. - Responsible for assisting on other client projects (bandwidth permitting) and providing back-up for other client accounts. - Review/audit import and export transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance with the various regulations. - Responsible for executing Export and Import controls as directed by the Client’s Policies, Processes and Procedures. - Identify on a timely basis all account challenges, while providing strategies and approaches to overcome these barriers/challenges. - Ensure the timely and accurate completion of projects, within budget. - Proactively analyze client/account data to identify opportunities for operational improvements. - Develop and implement new processes and procedures to improve operational efficiency. - Identify opportunities to offer additional solutions to client based on need or value. - Identify opportunities to offer new services, solutions or technology to Vigilant clients. Qualifications - Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Business or other related field. - Minimum 7 years’ experience in a corporate trade compliance, customs broker or compliance consulting environment. - Advanced knowledge of import and export trade compliance processes, policies and controls. - Excellent analytical and organizational skills with the ability to perform the day-to-day account activities independently with minimal supervision. - Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work in a dynamic and complex environment to meet deadlines and daily requirements. - Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with Legal, Sales, Operations, Logistics, Engineering, Finance and IT executives to achieve clients’ business and compliance objectives. - Demonstrated ability to communicate (verbally and written) effectively with clients, coworkers, and leadership. - Demonstrated leadership skills such as conflict/issue resolution, strong client interfacing skills. - Demonstrated professional knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point). - Customs Brokers License preferred, professional certificates, licenses, and training experience a plus.
