Role Description The University of Miami/UHealth Department Health Information Management has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Outpatient Coder 3 to work in Miami, FL. Under the general direction of the Outpatient Coding Manager, the Outpatient Coder 3 reviews documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR) and assigns and sequences ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and CPT procedure codes in accordance with national coding guidelines. The primary focus of this role is to capture all encounter specific diagnoses and procedure codes for accurate reimbursement, data collection, and research purposes. - Review, analyze, and interpret the entire electronic medical record (EMR) to identify all diagnoses and procedures documented during a patient’s admission. - Reach out to physicians for additional information when information for proper coding is missing or incomplete. - Assign codes to outpatient records for use in reimbursement and data collection. - Comply with policies and procedures and maintain confidential patient records. - Report unusual circumstances, risk factors, errors, and discrepancies to management. - Consistently maintain coding accuracy and productivity standards of ≥ 95%. - Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets. The incumbent supports junior staff members in day-to-day operations and resolving application issues. - Collaborates with key stakeholders, end-users, and application team members to optimize the application’s configuration, function, and access. - Serves as a primary support contact for application end-users. - Initiates the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of the application. - Initiates all phases of testing and the documentation of workflow design. - Performs the analysis of information technology in clinical work processes and validates the impacts to the workflow. - Initiates the identification of issues and guides the work to resolve them. - Supports junior staff members in the evaluation and resolution of service tickets, identification and implementation of application changes, retrieval of requested data, and execution of day-to-day operations. - Collaborates with trainers on application changes and new features to develop documentation and training strategies. - Works with stakeholders, the business community, and end users to ensure the application meets UHealth's business/clinical needs. - Participates in on-call rotations and support and attends and participates in applicable committees. - Maintains regular communication with team members, including participating in weekly project team meetings. - Reviews the status of projects and issues on an ongoing basis with leadership. - Remains knowledgeable about UHealth’s policies, procedures, and business operations. - Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in relevant field. - Epic certificate in Hospital Coding Administration, Deficiency Tracking Administration, Release of Information Administration, Identity are required. - 3-5 years of experience, preferably in healthcare or healthcare-related organization. - Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary. - Previous operational, project management, and organizational skills. - Familiarity with processes that fall under HIM: Chart Tracking, Release of Information, Deficiency Tracking, and Coding preferred. - Familiarity with transcription and scanning workflows and vendors, and confidentiality and privacy guidelines preferred. - Detailed knowledge of Master Patient Index (MPI) interfaces and other sources of patient information preferred. - Understanding of duplicate patient management processes preferred. - Microsoft Office Suite: Word, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, Excel. - Problem Solving: Seeking, logically examining, and interpreting information from different sources to determine a problem's cause and developing a course of action to resolve the problem and to prevent its recurrence. - Dependability: Ability and willingness to take ownership of work activities and ensure that they are completed in an accurate, efficient, and timely manner. - Critical Thinking: Ability and willingness to see things in an open-minded way and examine an idea or concept from as many angles as possible. - Stakeholder Management: Ability to work effectively with all levels of employees including senior leadership. - Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered. Role Description The Epic Solutions Architect 2 is responsible for the independent design, development, and deployment of clinical applications and technologies. The architect defines system solutions based on user/client needs, cost, and required integration with existing applications, systems, or platforms. This employee also researches, identifies, selects, and tests technology products required for solution delivery. Establishes, implements, and documents the technology integration or migration strategies. The position requires staying on top of industry trends and new technologies in the industry and operations supported. The employee must have the ability to proactively identify needs within the organization and, using expert technical and industry knowledge, design and build new solutions in support of organizational goals. - Engineer new workflows or optimize existing business processes that supersede existing standards set in place internally or by vendors utilizing expert knowledge crossing multiple clinical applications and operational areas. - Leads Projects associated with application implementation and execution of high complexity and larger impact. - Applies project management methodology and utilizes standard project management for software in development and maintenance of project plans. - Keeps abreast of industry information and trends related to information technology systems, attends and participates in continuing professional education courses and programs. - Functions as an independent project lead or provides oversight for project manager and/or business analyst on assigned projects, and recognize/minimize business value lost during project/program execution. - Performs proactive analysis on current systems and technology in order to recommend potential changes or enhancements that will assist in adhering to organization's strategic vision and improve operational workflows as well as patient and end user experience. - Identify product and customization requirements to effectively address necessary product configuration, while working within project scope and timeline. - Serves as mentor to senior analysts and is proficient and/or certified in numerous applications. - Expert level and comprehensive working knowledge and understanding of healthcare operational processes and job functions pertaining to assigned UHealth IT clinical applications and solutions. - Provide support to the team in analyzing, resolving, and escalating complex integration problems encountered by the team during system implementations and upgrades. - Expert knowledge of third party partnerships, experienced with managing vendor relationships and contract negotiations. - Able to implement projects that are ahead of industry/peer trends. Qualifications - Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or equivalent or a related field.
