Role Description The Estimator fulfills a dual role by accurately estimating various project work and by developing and maintaining long-term business relationships by managing bid projects that fulfill customer requirements. This highly visible position has day-to-day interaction with manufacturing, distribution, sales, and operations. A thorough understanding of project costs, technical knowledge of structured cabling, security, and other information technology concepts, applications, and equipment as well as excellent customer service and follow-up skills is required. Some travel may be required. Primary Duties and Responsibilities - Provide guidance and support to the Telaid Sales Staff and/or other project team members to determine preliminary cost and feasibility of projects, rollouts, expansions, and major MAC work. - Work closely with the Telaid sales and operations teams by estimating man hours, material, and labor costs for RFQ’s, RFP’s, and RFI’s. - Creation, review, and understanding of project bid specifications. - Review and understand plans, design drawings, and renderings. - Provide concise estimates of labor and materials of multiple disciplines. - Resolve any design and/or scheduling conflicts with appropriate personnel. - Development of Bill of Materials (BOM) and Scope of Work (SOW). - Provide engineering technical support as required. Qualifications - Excellent interpersonal skills. - Excellent customer relations skills. - Excellent communications skills. - Strong PC skills. - Pays strong attention to detail for reporting and tracking purposes. - Minimum of 3 years’ experience in estimating for design build, RFP assistance in structured cabling installation and service. - Familiarity with voice, data, audio, video, and network integration. - Familiarity with Security (CCTV, Access Control, and Intrusion). - Knowledge of TIA/EIA standards, fiber, CAT 5E, CAT6, and CAT6A (RCDD a plus). - Knowledge of A/C Commercial power requirements. - Ability to effectively manage time, prioritize work, and multi-task across many assignments. - Work with minimal supervision to meet stated goals. - Ability to assess the impact of new project requirements on an existing pricing model. - Technical writing skills producing clear and unambiguous deliverables. - Must be able to read and understand detailed RFP, RFQ, and RFI documents and develop pricing models that satisfy the requirements of the requests. Requirements - Experience creating detailed estimates in a form that meets the response requirements of the RFP, RFQ, or RFI. - 5+ years minimum experience in low voltage / telecommunications industry preferred. - 5+ years minimum experience in structured cable estimating/costing. - 5+ years minimum in working with and negotiating material prices. - 2+ years minimum experience with Excel import and export with the use of Macros. - LEEDS experience is a plus. - CAD experience is a plus. Education/Vocational Training - RCDD or equivalent experience (5+ years of project estimating experience/training). - Detailed knowledge of Microsoft Office suite especially Excel spreadsheets.
