Creative Strategist, Brand Partnerships

Role Description We're building Substack's sponsorships business from the ground up. The Creative Strategist sits between the sales team, brands and their agencies, and the writers on Substack. Your job is to turn a brand's goal into a campaign idea, find the writers who can carry that idea credibly, and stay with it from the first pitch through the work going live. This is a founding role on a small team, so the frameworks are yours to write. - Come up with campaign ideas that work for a brand and feel native to Substack, rather than an ad bolted onto someone's newsletter. - Match brands with the right writers and publications, using judgment about audience, voice, and what a given writer will actually agree to. - Own the creative side of the pre-sale: read the brief, build the proposal, and respond to client feedback with new concepts and pivots. - Run campaigns from idea through execution, keeping the brand, the writer, and our sales lead pointed in the same direction. - Join client and agency calls to pitch ideas and pull out the information you need to sharpen them. - Write the pitch materials, thought starters, and points of view that help brands picture what they can do on Substack. - Watch what's working across the platform and feed real examples back into the next round of ideas. Qualifications - 5+ years in creative strategy, branded content, or content strategy, at a publisher, an agency, or a platform. - A portfolio of campaign ideas you've taken from concept to live work, ideally involving creators or publishers. - A feel for the RFP process and for writing proposals that win. - Real instincts for the creator and media space, and a sense for what's fresh versus what's played out. - The range to hold a creative conversation with a CMO and a practical one with a writer, sometimes on the same day. - Strong writing, and the organization to run several campaigns at once without dropping the details. Requirements - This position can be based in New York, where much of the commercial team sits, or remotely. - Substack's compensation package includes a market competitive salary, equity for all full time roles, and exceptional benefits. - Our cash compensation range for this role is $130,000 - $170,000. - Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above. Benefits - Substack is an equal opportunity employer. - All applicants will be considered for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity or transgender status), age, national origin, veteran or disability status. - We’re seeking people passionate about enabling independent expression and building a better business model for creators. - If you want to see what media, communities, and content can become when unmoored from advertising models, and you have the skills and experience to contribute, we’d love to meet you.

Through direct subscriptions, Substack has enabled a flourishing ecosystem of independent publishing and has become home to many of the most important voices shaping contemporary culture. We’re looking for a Culture Partnerships Manager to help grow and shape Substack’s Culture vertical. This is a high-impact, high-trust role working closely with the Head of Culture Partnerships to support some of Substack’s most significant publishers, recruit new cultural voices to the platform, and help think through the long-term strategy for scaling culture on Substack. This role combines relationship management, talent recruitment, and strategic thinking. The ideal candidate is intellectually curious, culturally literate, and energized by working at the intersection of ideas, creators, and platform growth. What You’ll Do: Publisher Relationship Management Act as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of high-performing Culture publishers, supporting their growth through best practices, thoughtful guidance, and ongoing partnership. Comfort working directly with high-profile, high-expectation creators. Ability to think strategically while also executing reliably day-to-day. Strong relationship-building skills and a high degree of personal integrity. This role will directly influence which voices join the platform, how our most important publishers grow, and how Substack supports serious, independent thinking at scale.
