Position Description - Originate, evaluate, and lead the execution of control and minority equity investments in predominantly U.S.-based businesses with $5 to $50 million of EBITDA. - Drive the full investment lifecycle, including sourcing, due diligence, structuring, valuation, and closing of transactions across a variety of industries. - Lead negotiation of definitive purchase agreements, shareholder agreements, and related equity documentation. - Partner with management teams and boards to develop and execute value creation strategies, including operational improvements, growth initiatives, and strategic add-on acquisitions. - Play a leading role in evaluating and executing secondary investments, including acquisitions of interests in private equity funds and portfolios of operating companies. - Add value to broader firm initiatives, contributing to the continued buildout of Star Mountain’s private equity platform and investment capabilities. - Cultivate and expand relationships with intermediaries, company executives, co-investors, and limited partners to enhance proprietary deal flow and capital formation efforts. - Actively monitor portfolio company performance, working closely with management and boards to drive strategic initiatives, manage risks, and optimize exit outcomes. - Assist with recruiting, mentoring, and development of junior investment professionals. Required Qualifications - 12+ years of experience in private equity, with a focus on leveraged buyouts of lower middle market businesses ($5–$50 million EBITDA). - Demonstrated experience leading the underwriting and execution of control-oriented equity investments across industries. - Strong financial modeling, valuation, and analytical capabilities, combined with excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Proven ability to take ownership of transactions from sourcing through exit, including portfolio company oversight and value creation execution. - Experience negotiating purchase agreements, equity structures, and governance frameworks. - Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with management teams, advisors, and investors. - Willingness to travel nationwide for deal sourcing, diligence, board participation, and investor engagement. - Timing: Immediate. - Location: Remote Compensation The exact salary will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and performance during the selection process. Position Description Core Responsibilities Financial Monitoring & Analysis (40%) - Conduct monthly financial statement reviews for an assigned portfolio of 20-25 companies, identifying trends, variances, and early indicators of performance changes - Perform covenant compliance calculations and maintain covenant tracking schedules across all assigned portfolio companies - Upload financial data into portfolio management systems, ensuring data integrity and timely updates - Prepare monthly and quarterly monitoring commentary and analysis, supporting the valuation process with detailed financial assessments - Calculate and track key performance indicators (KPIs) including revenue trends, EBITDA margins, liquidity positions, and leverage metrics Portfolio Administration & Data Management (30%) - Maintain accurate and current records in firm data management platforms and CRM systems - Support the preparation of materials for portfolio status reporting, ensuring accurate credit rating classifications - Coordinate financial reporting schedules with portfolio company CFOs and finance teams - Manage document organization and maintain deal folders with current financial statements, compliance certificates, and correspondence - Generate standardized reports for internal stakeholders including weekly status updates and monthly portfolio summaries Valuation & Reporting Support (20%) - Prepare quarterly valuation support materials including comparable company analyses and precedent transaction data - Respond to valuation provider questions and coordinate information requests during quarterly and annual valuation cycles - Support year-end valuation deep dives with detailed financial analysis and performance commentary - Assist with LP reporting requirements, ensuring accurate portfolio company information for fund-level communications Board & Management Engagement (10%) - Attend board meetings as observer for select portfolio companies, taking detailed notes and tracking action items - Support Managing Directors on board-related matters, preparing financial summaries and operational updates - Prepare discussion materials for management calls and track follow-up items - Document management team and sponsor interactions and maintain relationship notes in CRM Required Qualifications: - Relevant experience in investment banking, commercial banking, private credit, private equity, public accounting, or corporate finance roles - Strong analytical skills with demonstrated proficiency in financial statement analysis and financial modeling - Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including experience building and maintaining financial models - Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills for managing multiple portfolio companies simultaneously - Effective written and verbal communication skills, with ability to synthesize complex financial information - Self-starter mentality with ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment - Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field Preferred Qualifications: - Experience with portfolio monitoring, credit analysis, or loan administration at a private credit firm or bank - Familiarity with private credit documentation including credit agreements, covenant calculations, and compliance certificates - Prior exposure to portfolio management systems (eFront, Investran, or similar platforms) - Progress toward CFA, CPA, or other relevant professional designations - Experience in the lower middle-market or with sponsor-backed companies Location & Timing - Location: Remote - Timing: Immediate Compensation: The exact salary will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and performance during the selection process. We are seeking a senior talent leader to drive executive talent assessments and oversee leadership hiring processes across our portfolio companies (Industry Agnostic). This individual will own the end-to-end executive talent process, partnering with Deal Teams, portfolio company leadership, co-sponsors, other stakeholders, and external search firms to ensure high-quality hiring outcomes. In addition, this individual will drive Thesis Driven Executive Sourcing. In this capacity, utilizing the Star Mounting Trust network, LinkedIn, and other resources, he/she will be responsible for finding and vetting potential CEO, Advisory, and/or Board candidates, based on a formed investment thesis.
