Aerial Adventure Guide- Treetop Quest Location: Roanoke United States Part Time Job Description: Salary $14.00 Hourly Job Type Part Time Job Number 201003628 Department Parks, Rec & Tour - Recreation - Description - Benefits GENERAL DESCRIPTION Provides facilitation and instructional assistance for the operation of Treetop Quest aerial adventure course. Maintains a safe and controlled atmosphere to ensure a high quality program that meets county standards. Performs other duties as assigned. - Shift Hours and/or days worked: Various - Hours Required for this position: Up to 30/week ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - Performs daily course set up/break down, visual course inspections, participant safety orientations, and on-going participant and environmental observations. Starts and ends programs on time and returns all resources to their proper locations. - Evacuates/rescues guests in distress from the aerial adventure course following standardized safety protocols as needed. - Performs basic clean-up for all areas of Treetop Quest aerial adventure course facility including birthday party and observation spaces. - Interacts spontaneously with participants, guests and the general public at any given time at the park to model a personal and inviting atmosphere. - Establishes and maintains effective working relationship with employees, partnering organizations, participants, guests, and the general public. Fostering a team environment through daily work habits and a positive attitude. REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES Education Preferred: High School Diploma or equivalent Experience Preferred: One year of proven work history in the recreation, outdoor or service industry. Certifications/Licenses Required: CPR and First Aid certification or the ability to obtain upon hire Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Ability to be comfortable working off the ground and in the trees. - Ability to work and manage stressful situations that could directly impact participant safety. - Knowledge of the principles and practices of group instruction. - Ability to lead and teach a variety of group types of all ages. - Willingness to work both indoors and outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions. Additional Requirements Subject to a complete criminal history and Child Protective Services background search with acceptable results. Good physical condition. Following a conditional offer of employment, must pass a post offer physical examination. Must be able to perform the job as described in the Physical and Environmental Demands section of this job description. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and some holidays. Minimum age 16. Title: Senior Adventure Guide Location: Roanoke United States Job Description: Performs skilled work in the operation and maintenance of the Treetop Quest aerial adventure course. Serves as the on-site shift lead, ensuring a safe, efficient, and high-quality guest experience. In the absence of the Supervisor, performs responsible, lead-level work overseeing daily operations of Treetop Quest (TQ), including supervising Adventure Guides and Lead Guides, enforcing safety standards, and making real-time operational decisions. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Recreation Program Supervisor. Shift Hours and/or Days Worked: Sundays 11am-4pm Hours Required for this position: 6-8 per week - Serves as shift lead with responsibility for daily operations during assigned hours, including staffing, guest flow, and course activity. - Provides direct supervision, direction, and accountability for Adventure Guides and Lead Guides. - Performs detailed course inspections, maintains usage/equipment/maintenance logs, maintains adventure course gear and hardware, and reports on current or potential future course issues. - Ensures strict adherence to all safety procedures, inspection protocols, and risk management standards. - Conducts safety briefings and actively monitors guests to ensure proper equipment use and compliance. - Responds to incidents and emergencies, including performing or coordinating rescues as needed. - Completes incident and accident reports and ensures accurate documentation of inspections and safety checks. - Provides facilitation and instructional assistance for guests. - Monitors weather conditions and implements operational adjustments or closures in accordance with safety guidelines. - Delivers excellent customer service by assisting guests, resolving concerns, and maintaining a positive experience. - Monitors staff performance, ensuring employees are on task, following procedures, and providing quality service; addresses issues in real time and escalates as needed. - Ensures completion of opening, operational, and closing procedures, including equipment checks and site readiness. - Assists with admissions, reservations, and point-of-sale transactions; supports accurate cash handling and adherence to procedures. - Communicates effectively with supervisors regarding operations, incidents, and staffing needs. - Performs other duties as required. Education: Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Experience: Required: Minimum of two seasons (or equivalent experience) in an aerial adventure, ropes course, aerial adventure park, or similar outdoor recreation setting. Preferred: Prior leadership or supervisory experience. Currently possess or have the ability to obtain required safety and rescue certifications. Certifications/Licenses: Required: CPR and First Aid certification or the ability to obtain upon hire. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Knowledge of ropes course or aerial adventure park operations and safety practices. - Strong understanding of risk management and emergency response procedures. - Ability to lead staff in a fast-paced outdoor environment. - Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure. - Strong customer service and conflict resolution skills. - Ability to communicate clearly with staff and guests of all ages. - Ability to enforce rules and policies consistently and professionally. Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises part-time Aerial Adventure Lead Guides and Guides.
