About the role The SVP of Engineering is the senior technical leader for Riot Data Centers’ Engineering organization, providing disciplined oversight across all core engineering disciplines: mechanical, electrical, and controls. This role is accountable for technical standards, design integrity, engineering talent development, and the quality of all engineering outputs across the active portfolio. The SVP operates as a counterpart to the Design Management organization, owning engineering rigor while enabling delivery velocity. Reporting to the EVP of Design & Construction, this leader will directly lead a team of discipline specific engineers and serve as the senior technical voice in cross-functional forums, vendor relationships, and capital investment decisions. What you'll do Technical Leadership & Standards - Establish and enforce engineering standards, Basis of Design (BoD) frameworks, and QA/QC protocols across all disciplines - Own technical review and approval at key project milestones (DD, 30/60/90/IFC) to ensure design integrity and standards compliance - Serve as the senior technical authority for cross-discipline coordination, ensuring integrated system performance across mechanical, electrical, and controls functions - Drive technical risk identification, mitigation planning, and lessons learned adoption across the portfolio Team Leadership & Development - Lead and develop the Engineering team including Senior Electrical Engineer, Senior Mechanical Engineer, Senior Controls Engineer, and BIM/Document Control Coordinator - Define role clarity, growth pathways, and expectations for technical excellence across the engineering function - Build a culture of rigor, accountability, and continuous improvement within the team - Recruit and develop engineering talent as the portfolio scales Consultant & Vendor Oversight - Establish scope requirements, deliverable standards, and performance expectations for external EORs, design consultants, and specialty vendors / consultants - Lead technical workshops and design charrettes to align external partners to Riot’s engineering requirements - Review and approve key consultant deliverables, submittals, and equipment selections Cross-Functional Partnership - Partner closely with the VP of Design Management to ensure engineering inputs and design deliverables are sequenced and integrated effectively - Collaborate with Construction leadership on constructability, RFI resolution, and commissioning readiness - Support Procurement with technical evaluation of equipment and supply chain strategy including vendor / product evaluation and maintenance of an approved product / vendor list - Represent engineering in executive forums, strategic planning, and customer/stakeholder discussions What you'll bring - Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering; advanced degree a plus - At least 15+ years of engineering experience in the data center market - Demonstrated leadership of multi-discipline engineering teams with direct people management accountability - Deep technical fluency across at least one core discipline (mechanical, electrical, or controls) with working knowledge of the others - Proven track record of establishing engineering standards and driving consistent technical execution across a capital portfolio - Strong executive communication skills; able to represent technical complexity to non-technical stakeholders clearly - Experience with consultant oversight, EOR management, and design review governance on large capital programs - Ability to travel to sites for critical design, commissioning, and stakeholder events Compensation and Benefits - Competitive Salary: $310,000-$340,000 (commensurate with experience) + bonus + sign-on equity grant. - Long-Term Growth: Eligible to participate in Riot’s equity incentive programs and share in the success you help build. - 401(k) Retirement Plan: Incudes a generous company match. - Comprehensive Health Coverage: Multiple medical plan options, including 100% company-paid plans. - Wellness & Lifestyle Perks: Enjoy free gym memberships, pet insurance, childcare discounts, and more to support your life both in and out of work. About the role Riot is seeking a Liquid Cooling Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our Central Operations team. In this role, you will serve as the technical authority for the deployment, commissioning, optimization, and lifecycle management of industrial-scale liquid cooling systems. You will bridge engineering design and field execution, leading complex cooling infrastructure including heat exchangers, fluid distribution systems, valves, controls, and monitoring platforms. This is a hands-on, highly visible role focused on ensuring reliability and performance in high-density computing environments. This position is remote, with up to 75% travel required to support site activities, troubleshooting, and operational initiatives at our Rockdale, TX site. What you'll be doing - Lead the technical strategy for industrial liquid cooling systems, including large-scale direct-to-chip, cold-plate, and immersion deployments - Apply thermal theory to validate system-level heat balance, fluid chemistry, and heat exchanger performance - Support end-to-end liquid-cooled rack deployments, providing project management support for full lifecycle execution - Serve as a subject matter expert in valves, pumps, VFD controls, and piping hydraulics to ensure stable flow and pressure management - Define and optimize control logic, alarm thresholds, and fail-safe interlocks in collaboration with automation teams (PLC/BMS) - Support commissioning activities for liquid systems, including hydro-testing, flow balancing, and thermal validation under load - Lead root-cause analysis (RCA) for thermal and fluid incidents and drive continuous improvement to reduce MTTR and repeat failures - Develop maintenance protocols, SOPs, MOPs, and training programs for water treatment and safe operation of liquid cooling systems What you'll have - 7+ years of experience in industrial water cooling or critical infrastructure, with a strong focus on large-scale fluid systems - Proven experience in deployment and maintenance of hyperscale data center liquid cooling systems strongly preferred - Strong understanding of thermal heat transfer and fluid dynamics, with expert knowledge of industrial valves, heat exchangers, and pumping systems - Proficiency in reading and developing P&IDs and mechanical schematics - Hands-on experience with industrial controls (PLC/BMS), alarm management, and data-driven troubleshooting - Ability to manage complex projects and influence cross-functional teams (Construction, Engineering, Operations) without direct authority - Ability to meet physical job requirements and work in a data center environment - Preferred experience in Mechanical Engineering, Fluid Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline. - Preferred Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (e.g., Mechanical Engineering) or a related field. This role requires deep expertise in controls architecture, strong hands-on programming skills, and the ability to lead complex commissioning efforts while defining standards and mentoring engineering teams. You will drive technical excellence across new builds, retrofits, and operational improvements. The role is primarily remote for design and coordination, with travel required to site locations to lead commissioning activities, Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT). This position requires up to 50% travel to support project and commissioning activities at site locations. What you'll do - Lead controls system architecture and design for new data center builds, expansions, and retrofits, including BMS/PLC scope, I/O lists, network topology, integrations, and enterprise controls standards (hardware, software, protocols, cybersecurity, documentation). - Develop and approve key engineering deliverables including sequences of operation (SOO), control narratives, P&IDs, single-line diagrams, point schedules, and fail-safe control logic with interlocks, alarms, and redundancy strategies. - Program, configure, and troubleshoot BMS and PLC systems across multiple platforms (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider, Tridium, JCI, Honeywell), supporting HVAC, cooling, electrical distribution, and backup power systems. - Develop and implement advanced control strategies such as load balancing, predictive staging, economizer control, and VFD sequencing, while managing software version control, change management, and system backups. - Lead Factory and Site Acceptance Testing (FAT/SAT) and full commissioning activities, including test script development, I/O verification, loop tuning, sequence validation, failover testing, and end-to-end system startup. - Serve as technical owner for controls scope with vendors and integrators, managing submittals, specifications, construction coordination, project integration, and IT/OT cybersecurity and network segmentation requirements. - Provide escalation-level troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and performance optimization using operational data, alarms, and trend analysis; implement corrective actions and system improvements. - Mentor engineers and technicians while developing technical documentation (as-builts, O&M manuals, SOPs, training materials) and supporting operational readiness, CMMS integration, and alarm management improvements.
