Role Description RetentionX is the customer value and execution layer for commerce. We close the loop from identity to insight to agentic execution, helping commerce brands understand customer value, identify growth opportunities, and increasingly execute against those opportunities through intelligent workflows and agents. RetentionX has a strong product, an established customer base, and a working inbound motion. We are now hiring our first dedicated sales hire to build a new, relationship-led strategic sales motion for high-potential commerce brands. This is not a role for someone who wants to wait for marketing-qualified leads or automate their way through a list. Our market is finite and we care deeply about the quality of every relationship we build. We are looking for someone who can create demand through thoughtful account development, credible relationships, warm paths, field activity, and strategic conversations with serious buyers. What you will own - Create and close net-new revenue from high-potential commerce brands. - Build a finite, strategic account universe and develop real relationships inside it. - Engage founders, CEOs, CMOs, Heads of eCommerce, Heads of Retention, CRM/lifecycle leaders, and relevant operators. - Run the full sales cycle from account selection and first conversation through discovery, business case, demo, negotiation, and close. - Use agencies, consultants, operators, customer referrals, and eCommerce ecosystem relationships as high-quality introduction paths into new-logo opportunities. - Develop a repeatable sales narrative around customer value, retention, LTV, growth opportunities, tracking/identity, workflows, and agentic execution. - Work with the CEO on strategic accounts, field strategy, pricing, and closing key opportunities. - Document the emerging sales playbook: ICP, account tiers, outreach principles, qualification criteria, demo flow, objections, buying triggers, and close process. What this role is not - Not a high-volume SDR or cold-email automation role. - Not a role where success is measured by number of sequences, emails sent, LinkedIn connection requests, or generic demos booked. - Not a role built around inheriting existing inbound demand. - Not a customer success or account management role. - Not a soft partnership role where success means signing partners or having friendly ecosystem conversations without revenue. - Not a VP Sales role focused on hiring a team before the sales motion is proven. What success looks like - You create a new source of qualified strategic opportunities that did not already exist through our inbound motion. - You close net-new commerce-brand revenue at strategic ACVs. - You build trusted relationships with a finite set of high-potential brands and ecosystem connectors. - You create a repeatable, high-quality sales process that can later be scaled without damaging the market. - You help RetentionX move from founder/product-led growth toward a durable, relationship-led strategic sales engine. Qualifications - You have sold to eCommerce, retail, DTC, commerce technology, MarTech, CRM, analytics, or adjacent buyers. - You have created deals from nothing - not just closed inbound leads that marketing handed to you. - You are comfortable selling to founders, CEOs, CMOs, Heads of eCommerce, Heads of Retention, and CRM/lifecycle leaders. - You have excellent commercial judgment and know how to build trust before pushing for a close. - You are autonomous, high-agency, and able to operate without an SDR team, large brand, or mature sales infrastructure around you. - You understand that in a finite market, relationship quality matters more than activity volume. - You can run discovery, demo strategically, build a business case, negotiate, and close.
