**Responsibilities:** - Implement shaders, graphic systems, and visual tools based on direction from Design and Art teams including task owner - Assist with porting to new platforms accounting for best practices based on engine and platform requirements - Create tools to assist production as needed - Assist with optimization, especially of graphics-related issues, utilizing profiling tools and coding best practices - Develop and test code, fix bugs, and profile to optimize code as directed - Follow engineering best practices, development processes, and coding standards - Take ownership of tasks and authored features, ensuring owned features can be maintained and provide technical and design leadership for owned tasks - Seek feedback on owned tasks, including via playtests, other Owls and stakeholders - Evaluate new XR hardware and assist with R&D efforts - Collaborate with (or act as) Owners to break down large deliverables into more discrete tasking and provide accurate estimates to stakeholders - Collaborate with Owls cross-departmentally to meet task goals and determine code requirements - Keep up to date on the latest in development practices for Unity and XR and ensure distribution of that knowledge throughout team - Mentor other Owls on graphics best practices through one to one discussions, coding explanations, code reviews, and documentation creation, etc.
Role Description Owls in this role prototype, develop, and release code to bring Owlchemy’s ideas to life. - Implement shaders, graphic systems, and visual tools based on direction from Design and Art teams including task owner. - Assist with porting to new platforms accounting for best practices based on engine and platform requirements. - Create tools to assist production as needed. - Assist with optimization, especially of graphics-related issues, utilizing profiling tools and coding best practices. - Develop and test code, fix bugs, and profile to optimize code as directed. - Follow engineering best practices, development processes, and coding standards. - Take ownership of tasks and authored features, ensuring owned features can be maintained and provide technical and design leadership for owned tasks. - Seek feedback on owned tasks, including via playtests, other Owls and stakeholders. - Evaluate new XR hardware and assist with R&D efforts. - Collaborate with (or act as) Owners to break down large deliverables into more discrete tasking and provide accurate estimates to stakeholders. - Collaborate with Owls cross-departmentally to meet task goals and determine code requirements. - Keep up to date on the latest in development practices for Unity and XR and ensure distribution of that knowledge throughout team. - Mentor other Owls on graphics best practices through one to one discussions, coding explanations, code reviews, and documentation creation, etc. Qualifications - Strong attention to detail. - Strong, clear and proactive communicator across a variety of disciplines and levels. - Deep Unity Programming Expertise (C#, HLSL). - Strong understanding of Unity’s Scriptable Render Pipeline and Universal Render Pipeline and underlying rendering technologies like Vulkan and OpenGL. - Cross programming expertise (C++, Java, Python, etc.). - Deep graphics optimization expertise (Unity Profile, RenderDoc, hardware specifics). - Experience with XR platforms, tile-based renderers, and related technologies strongly preferred. Requirements - High School Diploma or Equivalent. - 7+ years of graphics programming experience. - Good understanding of all other disciplines in game development. Preferred Education and Experience - 10+ years of graphics programming experience. - Appreciation of puns (or at least the ability to groan at them). Physical Requirements - Owls must be able to use virtual reality headsets but are not expected to own one. Salary Range $150,000 - $180,000 USD/year Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time, work from home, 40-hours per week position. Core hours of work are Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. CT. Travel - For Owls working outside of the Austin, TX area, travel to Austin may be required 4 to 6 times per year. • Create models, textures, and materials for 3D environment, prop, and character art assets • Create basic rig for characters and props as needed • Create basic 3D character animations as needed • Create, revise, and iterate work based on concepts, feedback and revisions, and project knowledge gained during development • Ensure that work is consistent with the defined visual style for the project • Export assets from art tools and import them into Unity according to best practices • Assist in the implementation of in-progress and completed assets in Unity • Collaborate with (or act as) Project Owners to ensure tasking is meeting milestones, including providing accurate estimates, updates on progress, prioritizing key action steps, and notice of potential setbacks • Collaborate with Owls cross-departmentally to meet task goals and determine art requirements • Participate regularly in appropriate feedback cycles for other Art Owls and project teams • Keep up to date on the latest in art practices for Unity and VR
• Collaborate with C-suite leadership, production, design, and engineering teams to align product goals with the overall company vision. • Define and execute a comprehensive product strategy for our live service title, focusing on long-term engagement, retention, and monetization. • Utilize data analytics, user feedback and creative direction to inform product decisions, optimize features, and identify new opportunities. • Oversee the live operations cadence, ensuring a steady stream of content updates, events, and features that keep the community engaged. • Coordinate with studio leadership to make sure production ramifications of decisions from all disciplines are considered. • Lead teams across disciplines from a production standpoint: effectively prioritize tasks, identify dependencies and remove blockers. • Support the Production team with clear direction throughout development including defining priority of features and milestones. • Partner closely with the Customer Support team to ensure player feedback and support data are systematically assessed, addressed in development cycles, and key drivers in product development decisions. • Partner closely with the Marketing team to ensure alignment on goals and production timelines, incorporating Marketing insights on player feedback and sales performance into product strategy. • Take the lead role in supporting Live Services projects throughout their lifetimes. • Maintain communication of progress and goals across all teams at Owlchemy. • Guide team to update and maintain documentation of product and development practices, including development processes, art style, and technical documentation. • Collaborate across departments to ensure product goals are being met, from gameplay and content to stylistic coherence. • Manage other Owls, providing professional development support, mentorship, and performance feedback. • Keep informed on the market landscape and stay ahead of industry trends \to ensure Owlchemy products remain competitive and innovative in the VR space.
