Title: Grand Jury Stenographer, prov. Location: Rochester, NY, United States Job Description: Location: Rochester, NY Title: Grand Jury Stenographer, prov. Deadline: Until Filled Salary: $68,569 – $95,556 annual salary, plus $10,000 annual stipend Agency/Dept.: District Attorney's Office Description of Duties This is a legal stenographic position responsible for taking and transcribing verbatim testimony before the Grand Jury. Duties involve taking shorthand notes verbatim on a shorthand machine at two-hundred (200) plus words per minute of proceedings, and transcribing confidential testimony and statements from defendants using computer-aided transcription software. A Grand Jury Stenographer is responsible for timely transcript production, which may occasionally involve working extra hours to meet tight deadlines. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the Director of Attorney Training and Grand Jury or other higher-level staff member and performs work in accordance with well-established procedures. Does related work as required. Minimum Qualifications Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus EITHER: (A) Two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent verbatim reporting experience; OR, (B) One (1) year paid full-time or its part-time equivalent verbatim reporting experience PLUS either graduation from a formal program in court reporting (ex. Registered Professional Reporter [RPR], Registered Merit Reporter [RMR], Certified Realtime Reporter [CRR] certificates) OR graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s degree or Certificate in Court Reporting*.
Title: Zoo Keeper Location: Rochester United States Job Description: Description of Duties This position, in the Department of Parks, Seneca Park Zoo, is responsible for the care and feeding of zoo animals and the upkeep and maintenance of zoo property. Work involves the use of disinfectants and cleansers, is performed around dusty enclosures and storage areas, and exposes employees to the hazards and diseases of the zoological animal collection as part of their routine duties. Work also involves moving up to approximately forty (40) pounds. Employees work under a variety of schedules and conditions including working inside and outside of zoo buildings in all types of weather. Employees may be required to work a varying schedule including evenings and weekends. The employee reports directly to and works under the general supervision of a higher level staff member. Does related work as required. Additional Information: After a training period, at least one eight-hour shift will involve serving as a night shift keeper. This may be working in multiple areas of the Zoo, preparing diets in the Animal Commissary, patrolling the Zoo, checking temperatures, buildings, and locks. Minimum Qualifications Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus EITHER: - Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's degree in one of the natural sciences, or Biology, Zoology, Conservation Biology, Wildlife Management, Animal Science, or a closely related field; OR, - Two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time or volunteer* equivalent experience caring for animals in a setting such as an animal hospital, veterinarian's office, wildlife refuge, sanctuary or other environments/positions devoted to animal care; OR, - One (1) year paid full-time or its part-time or volunteer* equivalent experience in a zoo or aquarium; OR, - An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B) and (C) above. - Volunteer experience must be documented by the participating agency. Public contact work is defined as responsibilities having substantial face-to-face or phone communication with adults (age 12+) involving persuasion, teaching, negotiation explaining, counseling, or similar activities that involve periodic confrontation with a client, customer or member or the public. Typical jobs involving substantial public contact are customer service representatives, receptionists, sales people, people providing personal services, interviewers or counselors.
