Summary: The Project Manager will lead the design and construction of EV charging infrastructure projects, serving as the primary accountability owner for the full delivery of EV projects from customer contract signing to commercial operation. This comprehensive role encompasses end-to-end project management responsibilities including planning, execution, monitoring, and closeout phases of each project. The Project Manager will collaborate extensively with internal partners including the Customer Success, Incentives, Energy, Supply Chain, Procurement, Logistics, Project Finance, Vehicle Titling & Registration, and the Marketing team to ensure seamless project delivery and exceptional customer experiences. The role will report directly to the Director, Project Execution. This role is Northeast remotely based with a 25%-30% travel expectation. Role Description As a Technical Trainer at Highland, you will be responsible for executing all of Highland's training matrix objectives by compiling Highland, OEM, and partner materials, and delivering structured, comprehensive technical training programs to Highland's end customers. This role is critical to ensuring customer technical self-sufficiency in performing maintenance, diagnostics, and repair operations on electric vehicles and charging infrastructure. The Technical Trainer will tailor all training delivery to customer-specific configurations based on their balance-of-system components (bus and charger), working across Highland's network of bus manufacturers, charger manufacturers, and subsystem partners. Throughout, you will provide customers with the knowledge and skills to independently troubleshoot complex technical challenges and perform depot-level repairs using OEM diagnostic software and tools, Highland's custom-engineered diagnostic tools, and OEM web portals. Responsibilities - Execute comprehensive technical training programs aligned with Highland's Training Matrix timeline and objectives, including commissioning, basic troubleshooting, advanced troubleshooting, and specialized technical competencies across multiple delivery phases. - Customize training delivery based on customer-specific balance-of-system configurations, adapting content to the specific bus models and charger types deployed at each customer site. - Train customers and Highland’s Technicians on the proper use of OEM diagnostic software and tools, Highland's custom-engineered diagnostic tools, and OEM web portals used for depot-level repairs and technical support. - Ensure customers and Highland’s Technicians achieve technical self-sufficiency in performing maintenance, diagnostics, and repair operations on electric vehicles and charging infrastructure without ongoing onsite support. - Conduct hands-on training sessions covering lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, zero voltage verification, high-voltage safety protocols, component replacement, software-based troubleshooting, and fault detection processes. - Deliver training on advanced diagnostic techniques, including CAN trace analysis, isolation fault detection, thermal management diagnostics, battery management system troubleshooting, and power electronics diagnostics. - Provide engineering-level support and troubleshooting assistance to customers when complex repair challenges exceed standard training scope, serving as an additional escalation point for technical issues. - Compile and organize training materials from Highland, OEM partners, and third-party sources into cohesive, customer-ready training curricula. - Develop and maintain training documentation, quick reference guides (QRGs), standard operating procedures, and troubleshooting flowcharts for customer use. - Assess training effectiveness through hands-on evaluations, competency certifications, and post-training follow-up to ensure knowledge retention, and maintain accurate records of training sessions, competency assessments, and technical support interactions. - Maintain deep technical expertise across all Highland OEM platforms, charging equipment, diagnostic tools, and subsystem components through continuous learning and manufacturer training programs. - Collaborate with Highland's Technology and Engineering teams to stay current on system updates, new diagnostic tools, software platforms, and emerging technical solutions. - Adapt training content and delivery methods to accommodate different learning styles, technical backgrounds, and operational environments across diverse customer organizations. Qualifications - 5+ years of experience in automotive or heavy-duty vehicle maintenance, diagnostics, and repair. - 3+ years of technical training or instruction experience (EV experience preferred). - Strong technical knowledge of electric vehicle powertrains and vehicle diagnostics, with expertise in using OEM diagnostic software, scan tools, and diagnostic equipment. - Experience and familiarity with National Standards, lockout/tagout procedures, and high-voltage safety protocols; ASE certifications, or equivalent EV-specific certifications strongly preferred. - Excellent communication, presentation, and instructional design skills with ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, develop training materials, and manage multiple customer training programs simultaneously. - Valid Commercial Driver's license with clean driving record and willingness to travel extensively to customer sites (up to 50% travel); ability to work independently, adapt to varying site conditions, and operate in a fast-paced environment with evolving technology.
