Role Description Franklin Templeton is hiring a Senior Retirement Plan Director to join our Retirement DCIO channel to cover the Pac Northwest region. The role is responsible for developing and deepening relationships with retirement and defined contribution (DCIO) partners, as well as internal partners across the Pacific Northwest territory. Territory: Northern California, Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Washington, Oregon, and Wyoming. The Retirement Plan Director generates sales and retains assets for Franklin Templeton within the Retirement Defined Contribution Investment-Only (DCIO) business. The role manages and cultivates relationships with Mid-Market Consultants, Retirement Intermediaries, and Third-Party Administrators who have a business focus in the large, mid and small retirement plan segments. The primary objective is to influence the placement and retention of Franklin Templeton Investment Strategies within various workplace solutions. This position requires: - A high-level of institutional investment acumen - An extensive background in the defined contribution plan market - A high level of knowledge on regulatory impact, business building and practice management issues - Being deemed a subject matter expert and credible resource by internal and external audiences The Retirement Plan Director maintains regular contact with retirement wholesalers of major distribution partners, interacts with senior management, and builds productive relationships with other Franklin Templeton sales channels such as Consultant Relations and Retail Sales. Role Description The Business Development Director (BDD) for Defined Contribution Plans is responsible for driving growth and expanding the company’s business within the defined contribution space, focusing specifically on retirement-focused advisors and clients (mid-market companies with defined contribution retirement plans). The BDD identifies new business opportunities, cultivates relationships with key decision-makers, and develops strategic solutions to meet clients’ retirement plan needs. Ideal candidates will have a deep understanding of defined contribution (DC) plans, including 401(k) and other retirement plan products, and a proven track record of success in business development within financial services. Location: Ideal candidates will be located in the Northeast region specifically Boston, MA. Key Responsibilities - Client Acquisition and Relationship Management: - Identify new business opportunities with retirement-focused advisors and clients, including mid-sized companies (typically 100 to 500 employees) with defined contribution plans. - Develop relationships with key decision-makers such as HR directors, CFOs, and benefits managers. - Serve as the point of contact for clients, providing ongoing service to ensure retention and satisfaction. - Sales Strategy & Execution: - Develop a comprehensive business development strategy for defined contribution plans to win new business. - Create tailored presentations and value propositions, addressing the needs of retirement-focused advisors. - Present retirement plan solutions, including 401(k), 403(b), profit-sharing, and other retirement plans to prospective clients. - Engage in prospecting and closing of new business to meet or exceed sales targets. - Provide consultative services to clients, offering insights on plan design, investment options, and plan participant engagement strategies. - Track sales pipeline, forecast revenue, and report progress to leadership. - Monitor client satisfaction and retention metrics. - Cross-Functional Collaboration: - Partner with internal teams, including product managers, compliance, marketing, and client service teams. - Collaborate with leadership to refine the business development strategy. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, or a related field. - 7+ years of experience in business development, sales, or account management, with a strong focus on defined contribution retirement plans. - Proven track record of successfully selling retirement plan solutions (i.e., 401(k), 403(b), profit-sharing) to mid-sized businesses. - In-depth knowledge of defined contribution plan design, compliance, and investment strategies. - Experience with Tier II clients (100-500 employees) and an understanding of their unique retirement plan needs. - Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills with the ability to develop compelling proposals tailored to client needs. - Deep understanding of financial services, employee benefits, and retirement planning. - FINRA Series 7 and 63 licenses required. What are the ongoing responsibilities of an RIA Director? - Cultivates strong personal and professional relationships with key individuals at targeted firms. - Using an extensive knowledge of investments strategies and their macroeconomic underpinnings and understanding of how to address the special needs of the private wealth channel to influence client investment decisions. - Researches external market trends and leverages a broad network of internal investment analysts to understand macroeconomic trends, formulate a strong investment perspective, and identify sales opportunities and at-risk positions. - Proactively shares successes and key learnings more broadly across Franklin Templeton Investment Global Advisor Services to maximize Franklin Templeton Investment’s market share. - Develops, oversees, and guides all sales activities - initiates contact, builds and sells highly sophisticated investment solutions using a variety of investment instruments and the most appropriate, cost effective delivery platform for sophisticated customers (in-person, phone and email communications.) - Serves as a resource and discussion partner on thought leadership in the investment space and applicable business space. When appropriate, partners with relevant internal specialists (i.e., product, investment management, defined contributions, etc.) throughout Franklin Templeton Investments to strengthen investment recommendations and with client sales service specialists to provide sales support and service. - Profiles and understands clients’ Private Wealth business models, identifies gaps in their model or offerings and effectively positions Franklin Templeton Investments investment solutions. - Identifies and proactively addresses potential investment concerns of existing clients. - Understands and parses their macroeconomic views to formulate a sophisticated investment perspective. - Engages clients in dialogue about their business models and appropriate investment strategies. - Manages travel and entertainment budget and expenses effectively. Maintains meeting notes in CRM. - Uses internal and external database, systems, and resources to identify and screen potential prospects. What ideal qualifications, skills & experience would help someone to be successful? - Knowledge of the financial industry and its businesses and products - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent - Typically has 8-12+ years related experience.
