• The role of Payroll Manager is responsible for the payroll function and tax consultation services to clients. • They will work with clients to develop tax strategies and policies for client operations and transactions. • They will lead internal and external training sessions to help foster career development of tax Staff and Senior accountants. • Prepare and review 1040 tax returns and other tax forms • Prepare and review tax equalization calculation • Assist in responding to notices and act as client representative with tax authorities • Conduct gross up computation for expatriates • Maintain payroll operation by collecting and entering data, and reviewing payroll reporting • Work with clients to develop tax efficient solutions which address clients’ business needs • Work on expanding tax knowledge and keep up-to-date with latest tax regulations
Role Description The role of Senior Manager is responsible for preparing tax returns, tax provisions, transfer pricing, and tax consultation services to clients. Senior Managers are a critical part of the engagement team and will usually be the primary client contact. They are expected to: - Lead internal and external training sessions and foster the career development of tax Staff, Seniors, and Managers. - Manage small to mid-size clients and perform functions that foster business development and client relationships. - Coordinate the activities of the tax unit or department to render quality tax services to clients. Responsibilities - Apply academic training and professional experience in accounting and tax laws/regulations to review complicated tax returns (corporate, dual-status and expatriate individual, partnership). - Review letters prepared by Staff and Seniors on behalf of taxpayers to federal and state taxing jurisdictions regarding complex tax issues. - Directly deal with tax auditors on behalf of clients. - Research and interpret tax laws on complex issues and questions arising from client transactions, audits, and tax filings. - Review and provide feedback on research prepared by Staff and Seniors. - Review and analyze transfer pricing studies prepared by Staff and Seniors. - Prepare complex transfer pricing study analyses. - Review and analyze tax provisions prepared by Staff and Seniors. - Prepare complex tax provisions for financial statements. - Build client satisfaction by leading client meetings, providing timely and effective responses to requests and concerns, and providing consultation on all tax matters. - Serve as the main contact to clients, ensuring satisfaction with services and identifying opportunities for additional professional services. - Communicate effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing, to build business relationships. - Demonstrate broad, in-depth understanding of tax concepts and actively pursue increased tax knowledge through client assignments. - Keep abreast of current tax developments and develop knowledge in specialized areas. - Plan and manage multiple tax engagements simultaneously. - Manage one’s own time and work, as well as the time and work of Staff, Seniors, and Managers. - Ensure work is completed within deadlines and established budgets. - Promote positive working relationships within a diverse work environment and ensure that all team members are treated with respect. - Monitor engagement team's use of technology to ensure effective usage. - Motivate, train, and coach team members to further their professional development. - Review and evaluate Staff, Seniors, and Managers; provide timely performance feedback. - Work with other departments to ensure proper cooperation and coordination. - Manage and run engagements with consultation of Partners and Principals. - Actively participate in firm marketing and proposal efforts. - Actively participate in recruiting talent to the firm. Qualifications - Undergraduate degree in Accounting, or a tax concentration within an accounting program from an accredited college/university. - A CPA or EA license. - 10+ years of tax service experience in a public accounting firm. - Tax Manager experience a plus. - Experience preparing individual, business, benefit fund, real estate, and exempt organization tax returns. - Strong computer skills: proficiency in tax accounting software, Excel, Word. - Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. - Business level proficiency in English required – Dual business level proficiency in Japanese required. - Detail-oriented and able to multi-task managing people and projects.
