Role Description Doncaster and Bassetlaw teaching hospital is a vibrant, hard-working and inclusive Trust that strives to deliver consistently high standards for both our patients and staff. Alongside our system partners, DBTH is currently developing an ambitious programme to enable delivery of virtual ward capacity within the system. This will enable our patients to receive the acute care, remote monitoring and treatment they need in their own home. This is a fixed-term maternity cover position. Applications for secondment will also be considered. Main Duties of the Job - The Sister/Charge Nurse will guide, assist and empower nursing staff in fulfilling their professional role using research-based practice. - Support the Lead ACP in the day-to-day management of the Virtual Ward. Professional - Maintain the highest standard of patient care at all times. - Provide leadership and support to all members of the team and ensure they are conversant with the Trust's policies. - Ensure that Protocols and Procedures are followed and supervise junior staff doing the same. - Act as a clinical resource transferring appropriate skills to members of the team. - Contribute to the annual audit review of all aspects of clinical governance, disseminate the results and actively participate in the achievement of its goals. - Establish and maintain effective working relationships to ensure continuity of care/dissemination of information and promotion of ideas. - Respect patient confidentiality and the confidentiality of electronically stored personal/manual data in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act. Management - Assess and implement any necessary actions to ensure the efficient management of the ward as directed by the Lead ACP. - Organise and ensure the most cost effective use of resources including the deployment and provision of staff with a defined budget. - Participate in the Trust's complaints procedure and provide responses in the absence of the Lead ACP. Qualifications - RN (adult) with current NMC registration. - Aware of current issues facing healthcare, the NHS, Nursing & Virtual Wards. Desirable Qualifications - Programme of leadership / management. Knowledge & Experience - Extensive care experience (at least four years at band 5). - Experience working within the Virtual Ward. Desirable Knowledge & Experience - Presentation skills. - MDT Working. Personal Attributes & Skills - Evidence of developing personal qualities for leadership. - Draws on self-awareness to be an effective leader. - Critical thinker. - Team player, assertive, confident, credible, reflective. - Able to accommodate the demands of the post with flexible working as required. - Highly developed organisational skills - able to prioritise, contingency plan, change plans at short notice and with changing clinical demands.
