Role Description Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Senior Manager, Finance is responsible for overseeing the financial operations and ensuring the integrity of financial information. This role manages two Senior Financial Analysts. This position is offered as a 12 month contract. Responsibilities - Financial Operations Management - Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general accounting. - Oversee program reporting and accounting. - Manage cash flow and provide supporting analyses as required. - Financial Reporting - Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports. - Oversee internal and external financial reporting processes. - Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reports as required by our funders. - Assist the CFO in preparing materials for the Audit, Finance, and Risk Committee. - Financial Planning and Analysis - Lead the annual budgeting and monthly forecasting processes. - Provide financial analysis and support to various business and program areas. - Internal Controls and Compliance - Develop, document, and implement financial policies and procedures in conjunction with the CFO. - Ensure compliance with financial policies and provide education to management and staff. - Team Leadership - Lead, and develop the Finance team, including two Senior Financial Analysts. - Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment. - Other Responsibilities - Collaborate with various departments to develop and implement processes that have financial implications, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and financial policies. - Manage the annual external audit process. - Perform cross-functional and other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned or requested. Qualifications - Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field. - CPA designation in good standing is required. - Minimum of seven (7) years of relevant work experience in finance and accounting, with at least three (3) years in a leadership role leading a finance team. - Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP (more specifically, parts II and III of the Handbook). - Excellent interpersonal, project management, communication, writing, and presentation skills. - Demonstrated ability to network and build effective working relationships with senior management, government officials, peers, and others. - Advanced experience with computer applications, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. - Experience with NetSuite is an asset. - Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently with minimal supervision. - Proven ability to thrive and build a positive work culture in a permanently remote, work-from-home (distributed) environment. - Bilingual communication skills (English and French) are an asset. - Experience in digital research infrastructure, technology, public sector, and/or post-secondary education is a significant asset. Benefits - The expected salary range for this position for candidates residing in Canada is between $107,640 CAD - $161,460 CAD. - Placement within this range will be determined based on several factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience, demonstrated performance, overall alignment with the requirements of the role, and internal equity considerations, and other relevant organizational factors. - The range reflects the Alliance’s commitment to equitable pay practices and to ensuring fair compensation for all employees. Role Description The Developer, Data Services & Interoperability (DSI) supports the implementation of the Active Data Management Service (ADMS) and its integration within the Alliance’s broader digital research service environment. - Working with an external vendor and internal Alliance teams to contribute to the design, configuration, and operationalization of cloud and platform components required for the solution. - Enabling interoperability between the ADMS and other Alliance services through API integrations, infrastructure automation, and platform engineering practices. - Delivering reliable, secure, and scalable technical implementations while collaborating across teams to coordinate dependencies, resolve integration challenges, and support the transition of the service into stable operations. - Reporting to the DevOps Manager within the office of the Chief Technology Office and working closely with DSI project leadership. This is a contract position with a term until March 31, 2028. Responsibilities - Service Interoperability and API Integration: - Define, implement, test, and support interoperability between the ADMS and other Alliance services. - Establish and maintain stable API contracts, authentication mechanisms, and data exchange patterns. - Ensure consistent and reliable interaction between integrated services. - Requirements Definition and Implementation Planning: - Translate business, technical, and operational needs into detailed technical requirements and implementation tasks. - Collaborate with internal teams and the external vendor to clarify requirements and support implementation planning. - Contribute to ensuring requirements are clearly understood and actionable across stakeholders. - Cloud and Platform Infrastructure: - Configure and support cloud and platform infrastructure required for the ADMS solution, including Kubernetes environments, networking, and storage components. - Contribute to the setup of environments to ensure the solution is deployable, scalable, and supportable. - Align implementation with established platform and infrastructure practices. - Technical Implementation and Integration Support: - Collaborate with internal teams and the external vendor to coordinate technical dependencies and implementation sequencing. - Identify and help resolve integration issues and technical challenges affecting delivery. - Support alignment on interface behaviour, integration patterns, and implementation approaches. - Apply sound technical judgement to resolve non-routine issues, balancing trade-offs related to quality, timelines, system performance, and risk. - Testing, Troubleshooting, and Stabilization: - Test, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to interfaces, environments, and deployed components. - Support stabilization activities to ensure the solution is secure, reliable, and ready for operational use. - Investigate root causes and contribute to corrective actions to improve system performance and reliability. - Automation and Configuration Management: - Develop and maintain automation, configuration, and deployment processes using tools such as Ansible, scripting, and version control systems. - Improve consistency, repeatability, and operational supportability through automation practices. - Support infrastructure-as-code and configuration management approaches. - Documentation and Operational Readiness: - Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including configuration records, interface definitions, and operational procedures. - Ensure documentation supports ongoing maintenance, troubleshooting, and knowledge transfer. - Contribute to readiness for transition into production operations and support environments. Qualifications - Post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field. - 5 to 7 years of progressive experience in software development, systems integration, or platform engineering roles. - Experience implementing and supporting API integrations (REST, S3, Globus, etc.) and service interoperability in distributed systems. - Strong understanding of cloud and platform technologies, including Kubernetes, networking, and distributed storage (Ceph, iRODS, etc.). - Experience with automation and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, scripting, version control). - Experience working with Agile methodologies & project management techniques (PERT, CPM, Scrum, Lean, Kanban, etc.). - Demonstrated ability to translate business and operational needs into technical implementation tasks. - Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and technical documentation skills. - Knowledge of metadata, interoperability principles, and service interface design. - Experience working with external vendors and multi-stakeholder technical environments. - Experience in research, academic, or public sector environments is considered an asset. Role Description The Senior Financial Analyst plays a key role in the organization’s controllership and financial planning and analysis (FP&A) functions. The role is responsible for preparing, analyzing, and interpreting financial information to support sound financial management and decision-making. - Leads key components of the regular and year-end close processes. - Contributes to budgeting and forecasting. - Serves as a trusted finance partner to assigned business operations. - Applies strong technical expertise, analytical judgment, and a continuous improvement mindset to day-to-day program accounting and financial management. Responsibilities - Financial Operations - Lead assigned components of the period-end close processes, including preparation of workbooks, journal entries, and completion of month-end close checklists. - Act as a key finance user of the ERP system, supporting financial reporting, data integrity, and effective use of system functionality. - Prepare and maintain reconciliations for assigned balance sheet accounts, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely resolution of variances. - Support quarter-end and year-end reporting activities, including the preparation of schedules, analysis, and briefing materials for the Senior Finance Manager and the CFO. - Participate in the year-end external audit process and prepare detailed working papers for assigned areas. - Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) - Lead the preparation and coordination of periodic financial forecasts, conducted at least quarterly and more frequently as required by the organization. - Partner with Directors and senior stakeholders to gather forecast inputs, challenge assumptions, and ensure forecasts reflect current and emerging business realities. - Lead and coordinate assigned components of the annual budgeting process. - Prepare and maintain forecasts using Limelight, ensuring data integrity, consistency with the general ledger, and alignment with approved budgets. - Analyze forecast results, including identification and explanation of material over- and under-variances relative to budget and prior forecasts. - Prepare clear, concise forecast reports and variance analyses for management review, highlighting key drivers, risks, and opportunities. - Apply professional judgment to assess forecast risks, sensitivities, and trends, and provide insight to support informed decision-making. - Continuously improve forecasting processes, models, and reporting in collaboration with the finance team and stakeholders. - Prepare ad hoc financial analysis and recommendations as assigned by the Senior Finance Manager and the CFO. - Payroll and Related Financial Activities - Support payroll-related financial activities, including review and reconciliation of payroll-related accounts. - Prepare payroll reporting and statutory administrative filings in accordance with applicable legislation (e.g., employer health taxes, workers’ compensation). - Liaise with internal stakeholders and external service providers to support accurate and timely payroll processing and reporting. - Collaborate with Human Resources to support payroll-related processes and continuous improvement initiatives. - Operational Excellence and Support - Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, controls, and reporting efficiency, and contribute to their implementation. - Develop, document, and implement financial procedures in collaboration with the Senior Finance Manager. - Maintain confidentiality of financial information and sensitive organizational data. - Perform cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned or requested. Qualifications - Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation is strongly preferred. - Minimum five (5) years of progressive experience in financial analysis, accounting, or FP&A, preferably within a not-for-profit, public sector, or complex funding environment. - Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP and experience applying professional judgment in financial analysis and reporting. - Results-oriented professional with a strong focus on delivering accurate, timely, and high-quality outputs. - Demonstrated ability to work independently with a high degree of self-discipline and accountability in a permanently remote work-from-home environment. - Proactive and effective communicator capable of translating financial data into clear, actionable information. - Analytical, detail-oriented, and solution-focused, with sound professional judgment. - Collaborative team player with the ability to contribute positively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. - Bilingual communication skills (English and French) are considered an asset. - Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other computer applications.
