• Design and architect database systems optimized for Chess.com's specific workloads including real-time gaming, puzzle systems, and social graph traversal • Build internal tooling and automation to improve database deployment, migration, and operational efficiency, simplifying work streams for the broader engineering organization • Develop data pipelines and ETL processes for analytics, machine learning features, and cross-system data synchronization • Engineer multi-regional database architectures capable of handling massive volumes of chess games, user data, and social network interactions with minimal latency • Solve complex data modeling challenges including chess game storage optimization, puzzle attempt tracking, and large-scale social graph representation • Drive database platform evolution evaluating and implementing new technologies, storage engines, and architectural patterns with a bias toward continuous improvement • Build observability and performance tooling providing deep visibility into database behavior, query patterns, and capacity trends • Collaborate with product engineering teams to design optimal schemas, access patterns, and data layer integrations, ensuring the right people have the information they need • Implement infrastructure-as-code practices for database provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management with high first-time-right quality • Participate in on-call rotation to ensure 24/7 database availability and contribute to incident post-mortems.

Role Description The individual will serve as a Laboratory Technician in the Pharmacy Technology Certificate program. Responsibilities may include: - Teaching portions of course work in the program - Conducting or assisting in lab skills and evaluations - Online teaching and preparing videos for student lectures and labs as needed Assistant will have the ability to use San Juan College’s Learning Management System (Canvas) as well as technology-enhanced curriculum. • Own the full lifecycle of our search and analytics data platform: capacity planning, cluster architecture, performance tuning, incident response, migration strategy, and operational excellence. • Be the single point of deep expertise across all Elasticsearch and OpenSearch clusters at Chess.com. • Hands-on with cluster internals, write ILM/ISM policies, push infrastructure changes through GitOps, and make real-time decisions about replica allocation when a cluster goes red. • On-call ownership for Elasticsearch-related incidents: cluster health degradation, node loss, disk pressure, shard imbalance, and write rejection cascades. • Real-time cluster triage and cross-team coordination during production incidents. • Post-mortem authoring and systemic reliability improvements. • Snapshot and disaster recovery management across clusters. • Advise engineering teams on index design, mapping strategy, retention policies, and query optimization. • Manage Kibana and OpenSearch Dashboards access and configuration for internal consumers. • Define and maintain workload priority tiers across clusters.

• Develop and maintain Chess.com's flagship Android application to serve 185M+ global chess players with high-performance, scalable mobile experiences • Design and implement shared codebase architecture across our Android ecosystem to maximize development efficiency and code reusability • Collaborate cross-functionally with design, product management, data analytics, coaching, and titled player teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions and enhance user experience • Optimize application performance and user experience through code reviews, performance monitoring, and implementation of Android best practices • Contribute to technical architecture decisions for mobile platform scalability and maintainability as the user base grows • Maintain and improve development workflows to support rapid iteration and deployment cycles in a fully distributed team environment

• Uncover retention and growth drivers by leveraging exploratory analytical techniques • Dive into our data to discover insights on player behavior across different cohorts, segments, and stages of the user lifecycle, and communicate collect feedback on your findings from peers, and business and product partners • Work with business, product, and engineering teams to [plan → design → ship → evaluate] experiments/AB-Tests, and communicate their results/impact with the company. • Work directly in BigQuery to extract truths and trends that inform and guide business and product decisions • Collaborate with analysts/data-scientists in building scalable, and reproducible analyses, and communicate their insights with the company • Develop tools and best practices to ensure high data quality and identify and prevent errors before they reach production datasets
