Responsibilities & duties The development associate supports the vice president of development, acting to ensure the development team’s goals are met with precision and excellence. This is a high-impact role designed to keep the department’s programs on track, on time, and prioritized in alignment with CDP’s mission. The development associate will help bridge the gap between strategy and execution, tracking project management for all development initiatives, streamlining internal communications and collaborating with the vice president on priorities to ensure the department is focused on the highest-value activities. The ideal candidate is a master of organization, a diplomatic communicator and a strategic thinker who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. Primary responsibilities include: Strategic alignment & execution - Strategy implementation: Support the vice president with translating and tracking the long-term development strategy into actionable quarterly and annual work plans. - Prioritization: Act as a liaison to and support for the vice president, ensuring their time is focused on the most critical donor relationships and strategic initiatives, providing project management support as necessary. - Performance tracking: Develop and maintain dashboards to track progress toward fundraising goals, campaign milestones and departmental KPIs. - Board support: Assist the vice president and development team in preparing materials for board of directors meetings, ensuring data is accurate and narratives are compelling. Development processes - Process improvement: Identify bottlenecks in the development workflow and implement systems to increase the team’s efficiency and output. - Meeting management: Support in the design, execution and follow up of development team meetings, ensuring agendas are focused, action items are captured and accountabilities are clear Communication & special projects - Executive communications: Draft high-level briefings and correspondence on behalf of the vice president for internal and external audiences. - Crisis communications/rapid response: In the event of a major disaster, support the coordination of the development team’s fundraising efforts to ensure timely outreach and resource mobilization. This growth, coupled with increased visibility, has created a critical need for efficient, accurate and high-quality donor support and stewardship. Reporting to the director of donor engagement, the major gifts manager plays a vital role in advancing CDP’s mission by cultivating, soliciting and stewarding a portfolio of major donors and prospects. This position focuses on developing personalized, high‑touch relationships with individual and foundation donors capable of making significant contributions starting at the five-figure level. Working closely with development team members and collaborating across CDP departments, the major gifts manager implements strategic cultivation plans, prepares compelling proposals and briefing materials and ensures excellent, consistent donor experiences across all touchpoints. This position is essential to advancing the development team’s goals of: - Increasing philanthropic revenue to advance CDP’s mission. - Expanding and deepening donor relationships. - Growing CDP’s major donor pipeline. - Ensuring operational excellence and accurate data management. Data, reporting & strategic collaboration - Use Raiser’s Edge NXT to track interactions, maintain pipeline activity and ensure data accuracy. - Analyze donor trends to inform strategies, forecast revenue and refine engagement approaches. - Collaborate with the director of annual giving to identify donor growth opportunities. - Work closely with development colleagues to identify new prospects, strengthen systems and coordinate cultivation and stewardship activities. Required qualifications and skills: - Comfortable making direct asks and demonstrated success cultivating and soliciting six-figure gifts. - Strong specialized understanding of donor motivations, philanthropic trends and moves management best practices. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas in inspiring, donor-centered language. - Experience working with a CRM such as Blackbaud NXT; comfortable managing data, pipelines and reports. - Strong project management skills, including the demonstrated ability to manage multiple high-level, complex and multifaceted relationships, priorities and deadlines in a remote environment. - High emotional intelligence, active listening skills and the ability to connect with donors from diverse backgrounds. - Collaborative spirit to develop strategies that contribute to team success and a commitment to providing exceptional donor experiences. - Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while staying aligned to team goals and processes. - 5-7 years of work experience demonstrated through expertise in progressive fundraising, preferably in major gifts. Primary responsibilities include: The senior manager, people operations will manage most aspects of human resources operations tasks related to recruitment, hiring, onboarding, compliance and performance management within the Professional Employer Organization (PEO) platform (TriNet), as well as serve as a champion for the organization’s culture of inclusion, accountability and learning. The senior manager, people operations, is an active member of the finance and operations (FinOps) team, under the newly named People Operations (PeopleOps) function. This is a strategic business function that focuses on optimizing employee performance and engagement, integrating HR processes and aligning them with CDP's goals. It goes beyond traditional HR by emphasizing a people-centric employee experience, data-driven decision-making and fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture. This role requires the ideal candidate to maintain and enhance the current systems of recruitment, onboarding and performance management while working collaboratively across the team and cross-functionally, to translate the strategic goals of the People function into actionable daily practices and interactions. Performance management and organizational culture support - Collaborate with the people ops manager to oversee administrative tasks related to performance management, including updating the performance and learning module in TriNet to track evaluations, goals and other documents within established deadlines. - Train and assist CDP staff with the performance and learning module in TriNet and provide guidance on content development as needed. - Support the development and execution of performance accountability and separation processes. - Provide recommendations for the employee handbook, policies and procedures. - Support operational excellence and equity-aligned practices across the employee lifecycle. - Understand and support the goals of the organization, performance objectives, etc. while helping enforce, explain, and teach policies and procedures in a people-centric way. Leadership - Supervise the people & operations associate role and ensure strategic alignment of CDP’s people operations. - Partner closely with the COO and director of people, culture & belonging on organizational people strategy and decision-making. - Promote a consistent people-centric culture across the organization. The EAS manager works with the Director of Advisory Services (DAS) to manage and deliver consulting projects within the EAS umbrella of work, build out and oversee the training and management of the CDP Corps, be involved in business development needs and collaborate with the DAS and EAS team to continue to evolve and fulfill the strategic goals of this arm of the organization. Client and conference travel, while infrequent, may also be required averaging 2-3 days per trip, 4-8 trips per year. As a fully remote workforce, CDP prioritizes employee engagement and relationship building in service of a collaborative culture rooted in equity. To this end, in-person team retreats are scheduled throughout the year in different regions of the U.S. This role will be expected to attend 2-3 retreats per year, which average 3-5 days of travel. Primary responsibilities include: Project Management and Delivery - Build productive client relationships. - Manage client engagements, including designing and facilitating workshops/training, supporting the crafting of clients’ disaster strategies, authoring unique monthly disaster update emails and consulting reports, holding regular project management meetings and conducting consultations on disaster response and recovery best practices. - Make learning fun and have participants understand their role in solution-building and implementation through event and meeting design that are engaging, empowering and effective. - Be on project teams for projects managed by others within the EAS workstream. Provide support as needed in various areas ranging from agenda development and note-taking to facilitation and content development. - Set clear goals, monitor progress and provide regular feedback to project team members. - Ensure effective delivery of services as a project manager or project team member. Cross-Functional Business Development - Manage pipelines of consulting clients in collaboration with the DAS. In partnership with other members of the team across the organization, including the DAS, Resource Acquisition Manager and members of the Development team, engage in business development including meeting with potential clients, conducting needs assessments and coordinating to develop tailored scopes of work (SoWs) and budgets for potential clients. - Coordinate with the Resource Acquisition Manager, Development portfolio managers, and the organization’s customer relations management system (RENXT) while identifying and cultivating other relationships with key stakeholders, including philanthropic organizations, nonprofits, government agencies, and industry partners (including PSOs). Strategic Operations and Delivery - Collaborate with the DAS and EAS team to refine and deliver the EAS strategy to build capacity and refine the consulting line of services. - Translate nebulous needs, appropriately adapting to create client deliverable types that fit industry best practices. - Build, train and oversee a cadre of expert consultants – CDPCorps – who can engage in advisory services for CDP. - Collaborate cross-functionally across the organization to develop standardized training for the CDPCorps. Other Duties - As directed by the DAS and Strategy & Innovation VP, represent CDP to the public, community leaders, social service and community-based organizations, disaster experts and colleagues in the field of philanthropy to promote our expertise. - In coordination with the DAS, coordinate with the Director of Innovation and Special Projects and associates to identify education needs (deliverables or information) for projects and clients. - Work with the Strategy and Research team to support knowledge mobilization related to research, learning and evaluation projects. - Work closely with marketing and communication, development, and funds management and coalition building teams to ensure effective collaboration on EAS contracts, deliverables or clients. - Serve on committees, panels and task forces at CDP as appropriate and as available. - Remain knowledgeable about the priorities of the organization and the Strategy & Innovation team, the strategic plan, and the field of disaster philanthropy. - Collaborate effectively with colleagues across the organization. - Perform other duties and job-related tasks that may be assigned. This position reports to the DAS but works in service of the whole organization. Required qualifications and skills: - Roughly 5-7 years of (or equivalent) of progressively responsible experience demonstrated through expertise in the fields of disaster or emergency management, humanitarian crises, consulting, and/or philanthropic advising. - Demonstrated ability to manage or oversee multiple high-level, complex and/or multifaceted areas/programs with a fair level of scope or impact. - Demonstrated ability to work independently and make decisions with considerable latitude. - Demonstrated ability in development and management of SoWs, projects, and budgets (volunteer or professional). - Domestic or international disaster response, recovery, mitigation, and/or resilience experience. - Superior written and verbal communication skills. - Demonstrated ability to proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability. - Ability to work in a fast-paced, remote environment. - Ability to quickly learn and utilize new project management, project delivery, and client relationship tools. - Demonstrated ability to effectively persuade key decision-makers to take recommended actions and to effectively represent the organization externally. - Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), and Adobe Acrobat. Preferred qualifications and skills: - Consulting experience at various levels and positions. - Volunteer leadership roles experience. - Familiarity with, although not necessarily a professional background in, the philanthropic or disaster fields. - Experience with building innovative, user-friendly, and visually pleasing deliverables, using not only traditional (Microsoft Office, Canva), but also non-traditional (e.g., PowerBI, other dashboards) methods. - Project Management or equivalent training or certification (Project Management Professional, Agile management, Scrum Master, etc.). - Supervisory experience leading teams, developing talent and fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
