Far-UVC Program Officer Department: Programs/Research Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time Location: Remote - US Compensation: $122,000 - $165,000 / year Description We encourage you to apply by February 20, as early applicants may be considered first. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.  Far-UVC represents an opportunity to fundamentally transform how we protect people from airborne disease, both everyday illnesses and future pandemics. Imagine buildings that actively neutralize pathogens in real-time, creating safer indoor spaces for billions of people worldwide. This technology could save lives and dramatically reduce the biological risks we all face. We're at a pivotal moment. Every day, new pathogens threaten the safety and health of millions of people. With too few pathogen-agnostic tools to defend us, many people could be left vulnerable to what the next outbreak might bring. The science behind far-UVC shows real promise, but critical questions remain about implementation, deployment strategies, and real-world effectiveness.  As Far-UVC Program Officer, you will help address these research gaps to transform early-stage potential into deployable protection that could save lives during the next pandemic. Reporting directly to the Built Environment Program Director, this role will shape and execute our far-UVC strategy. The Program Officer will support key decisions on where to direct research and funding to strengthen the evidence base, and communicate our work to partners, experts, and the general public. Key Responsibilities - Translate high-level organizational goals in pandemic prevention into concrete far-UVC program priorities, plans, and tradeoffs. - Critically evaluate research outputs in far-UVC and related fields. - Identify the most decision-relevant scientific, technical, and implementation uncertainties limiting far-UVC impact. - Design, execute, and oversee grants and other research efforts to reduce those uncertainties, including experimental studies, modeling work, and synthesis of existing evidence. - Actively manage a portfolio of external collaborators, including researchers, grantees, contractors, and other external partners, by refining project scope, resolving execution challenges, and ensuring outputs remain aligned with program goals. - Build and maintain relationships with researchers, implementers, regulators, policymakers, and industry stakeholders relevant to far-UVC. - Develop and create documents to communicate about the far-UVC program to internal and external stakeholders and advance our far-UVC mission. - Represent Blueprint Biosecurity and its far-UVC work in external forums, including workshops, conferences, working groups, and one-on-one conversations. - Identify opportunities to shape the broader far-UVC ecosystem, including standards development, norms, shared research agendas, and coordination across actors. Qualifications Our Ideal Candidate: - Relentlessly pushes to identify and execute tasks, they are driven to solve real world problems with urgency and bring change to the airborne pathogen transmission space.  - Is excited to navigate complex systems and bring new perspectives to systemic challenges. - Excels at building relationships with diverse stakeholders to advance common goals. - Works autonomously in a fast-moving environment, identifying what needs to be done and driving it forward without waiting for perfect guidance. - Prioritizes learning that enables action, chasing down the insights most likely to drive impact. - Has strong intellectual curiosity with the ability to stress test ideas and respond to new evidence. Required: - Proven ability in leading and managing projects effectively, coupled with the skill to achieve outcomes by leveraging the capabilities of others - Excellent networking and relationship-building skills: you will be required to build and maintain partnerships with external organizations, leading academics, government bodies, and other key stakeholders - Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor language to different audiences - Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with an ability to anticipate and adapt to change swiftly - Comfortable reading and summarizing published scientific research in unfamiliar domains - A passion for innovation and a commitment to making a significant impact in the field of biosecurity and pandemic prevention Preferred: - Experience field building, leading large programs, and/or scaling technologies - Experience with cost-benefit analyses and/or investment cases - Experience working in far-UVC is highly preferred, however work in adjacent areas including indoor air quality, biosecurity, and public health are also beneficial - Proficiency in leveraging emerging AI tools to streamline workflows, enhance deliverable quality, and drive productivity gains across various aspects of the role - An advanced degree in a related field If you’re reading this and thinking “this is exactly the work I want to be doing,” we want to hear from you.
