Role Description The Estimator – Data Center Operations supports the preparation, analysis, and development of project cost estimates for data center infrastructure projects. This role is ideal for detail-oriented professionals with a technical mindset who want to grow within data center construction, structured cabling, and mission-critical operations. The Estimator will work closely with project managers, engineers, procurement teams, and vendors to ensure accurate and competitive estimates that support successful project delivery and profitability. Position Details: - Exempt Salaried position based upon experience; weekly salary broken down hourly for invoicing purposes only. - Contract with possible contract extension or hire. - Standard work hours: Must be flexible, varies upon project demands. - Location: Remote - near Plano, TX. - Travel - up to 15% (mainly to Plano HQ). Key Responsibilities - Assist in preparing cost estimates, bills of materials (BOMs), and labor projections for data center construction and infrastructure projects. - Interpret blueprints, specifications, and scope documents to determine project requirements. - Collaborate with project engineers, field operations, and procurement to validate material quantities, labor rates, and vendor quotes. - Perform take-offs for structured cabling, electrical, and mechanical systems related to data centers. - Support bid preparation and submission for RFPs and client proposals. - Update and maintain historical cost data, unit pricing, and vendor rate databases. - Assist with change order analysis, validating scope adjustments and cost impacts. - Ensure all estimates comply with company standards, safety requirements, and client expectations. - Participate in site visits and pre-bid meetings to gather technical and logistical details. - Contribute to process improvements that increase estimating accuracy and efficiency. Qualifications - Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related technical field. - 3-5 years in estimating, project coordination, or data center construction (internships or field experience acceptable). - Knowledge of Division 27 construction specifications in ISP environments. - Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, or cabling systems used in mission-critical facilities. - Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Bluebeam, and estimating software (e.g., Trimble, Accubid, or PlanSwift). - Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications. - Strong numerical accuracy, analytical thinking, and attention to detail. - Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Preferred Qualifications - Familiarity with BICSI standards, data center design concepts, or structured cabling. - Exposure to vendor bid comparisons, RFP processes, or cost control systems. - Basic knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, or construction scheduling software. - Experience working in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and multiple stakeholders. Role Description Primary Subject Matter Expert (SME) and escalation point for customers, ensuring high satisfaction and swift resolution of concerns. Work closely with engineering teams, project stakeholders, and manage services to ensure aligned, seamless operations across all functions. - Oversee incident handling, problem resolution, and change control processes to ensure SLA compliance and uninterrupted service delivery. - Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for critical incidents and implement corrective/preventive actions to minimize repeat issues. - Collaborate with stakeholders to define project scope, monitor progress, proactively identify risks, and escalate issues in a timely manner. - Support project managers with cost-optimization strategies, including resource leveling, budget variance analysis, and vendor contract evaluation. - Align L1-L3 engineering resources to project needs based on technical skillsets and workload balancing. - Manage end-to-end project delivery—from network/system design and deployment to documentation and operational handover—ensuring quality outcomes. - Maintain accurate hardware/software inventories, track lifecycle milestones, and manage contract renewals and replacements proactively. - Handle escalations with vendors such as Cisco, Fortinet, and Palo Alto, ensuring accountability and resolution of project-impacting issues. - Ensure accurate and timely monthly billing by validating project data and supporting the finance team with complete documentation. - Mentor engineers across L1-L3 levels, supporting their professional growth and ensuring consistent technical capabilities across the team. - Document lessons learned, share best practices, and drive continuous improvement in project execution and operational processes. - Promote and implement quarterly innovations to automate tasks, simplify workflows, and enhance service quality. - Encourage a team-driven improvement culture. - Conduct regular design and security reviews, ensuring adherence to best practices and regulatory requirements. - Lead efforts to improve security posture and close process gaps. - Travel time once a quarter for various client meetings. Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecommunications, Electronics Engineering, or a related field. - Five (5) years of IT experience, with a focus in Technical roles such as IT or Telecommunications. - PMP (Project Management Professional) certification or PRINCE2 certification is required. - Experience with project management tools such as Microsoft Project. - Fundamental Project Execution, including project financial management, client and subcontractor invoicing, status reporting, work plan management, scope management, issue & risk management, and communication management is essential. Qualifications - Experience with IBM AIX 7.2 administration. - Knowledge of PowerVM/LPARs and HMC management. - Familiarity with IBM Spectrum Protect for backup/recovery. - Experience in automation scripting (e.g., shell/Ansible). Requirements - Administer IBM AIX 7.2 across designated LPARs; perform patching, tuning, kernel updates, and maintenance. - Configure and manage PowerVM/LPARs, dual VIOS, and HMC; troubleshoot NPIV/vFC pathing to Pure Storage arrays. - Plan and execute OS and firmware updates, alternate disk/NIM-assisted migrations with documented rollback plans. - Provide Tier-3 escalation support for outages and performance incidents; lead RCA and preventative remediation. - Perform capacity and performance monitoring with actionable optimization recommendations. - Collaborate on SAN integrations, validate multipath health, and maintain NIM server operations. - Operate IBM Spectrum Protect for backup/recovery; document and validate restore procedures. - Support Live Partition Mobility prerequisites and post-move validation for datacenter relocation tasks, as requested. - Create and maintain scripts (e.g., shell/Ansible) to standardize patching and compliance tasks where feasible. - Maintain runbooks, SOPs, environment maps (LPARNIOS/HMC/NIM), and change documentation. - Provide knowledge transfer to customer staff through documented steps and working sessions.
