• Define and drive the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for our platform team, which owns the Management Layer and Control Infrastructure of our SaaS data orchestration product, Astro. • Engage deeply with our most strategic customers and customer facing teams to understand use cases and pain points, using evidence from that engagement to define a product roadmap for your team, in collaboration with our broader product and R&D organisation. • Develop detailed use-cases and product requirements, working closely with the engineering team through the design, development, and release processes. • Support product marketing and sales enablement to craft customer-focused messaging and content.
• Lead architecture reviews, workshops, and technical design sessions with engineering teams and executive stakeholders. • Design end-to-end platform architectures integrating Airflow with cloud infrastructure, compute frameworks, and data platforms. • Review delivery work to ensure high standards for scalability, observability, security, and operational excellence. • Diagnose and resolve issues, guide customers through deployments, migrations, and platform modernization. • Build reusable tools, frameworks, reference architectures, and best practices that improve delivery quality across the organization.

Role Description As an Airflow Reliability Engineer on the Customer Reliability Engineering (CRE) team at Astronomer, you will have the opportunity to become an Apache Airflow expert, learning directly from leaders of the Airflow project. You’ll provide Apache Airflow expertise directly to customers to help them make the best possible use of our managed Airflow service. CRE is Astronomer’s support team. Because our customers are sophisticated organizations who need and expect high levels of expertise to help them keep mission critical uses of Apache Airflow working consistently, we look a little different from most support teams. Nearly every ticket you will work requires an intersection of strong technical knowledge and customer empathy to understand what the customer needs and how to get them there. Qualifications - Data Engineering background - 4 years of experience with Python - 1 year of experience in Airflow administration and DAG creation - Experience with Kubernetes/Docker/Containers - Experience working with a distributed system with any major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure) - Problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities - Ability to work well with autonomy and independence - Strong written and verbal communication for connecting with our customers over our ticketing system and through Zoom - Experience mentoring junior team members Requirements - Bonus points if you have: - Contributions to open-source projects - Customer Support experience - Familiarity with SQL and PostgreSQL - Experience with Databricks, Snowflake, Redshift, dbt, or other similar data engineering tools Benefits - The estimated total compensation for this role ranges from $125,000 - $130,000 based on leveling and geography, along with an equity component and a comprehensive benefits package. Role Description The Astronomer Customer Reliability Engineering (CRE) team is responsible for the success of our customers' usage of our managed Airflow service. The CREs are responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining the platform to ensure availability, predictability, and reliable operations. As a senior infrastructure specialist within the team, you will focus on the reliability of the underlying cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes clusters. This entails responding to incidents either raised by a customer or from our monitoring system and then taking further steps to ensure problems are permanently resolved or monitored. As owners of the observability platform, CRE has unlimited potential to improve the reliability of the product and deliver the best possible outcome for our customers. This role is directly customer-facing and gives exposure to very diverse problems and requirements. CRE get the opportunity to interface with customers from a variety of industries across different cloud providers, and all with different expectations. Qualifications - 6 years of experience, preferably with large, complex cloud infrastructures operating at scale. - 4 years of experience with Kubernetes. - Experience managing a Production distributed system with at least one major cloud provider (one or all: AWS, GCP, Azure). - Strong Linux experience. - Knowledge of how to operate and monitor issues for distributed systems. - Previous experience in handling customers issues (internal or external). - Strong communication skills. - DevOps or CI/CD experience. - Python scripting. - Good troubleshooting skills. Requirements - Experience as a Site Reliability Engineer (bonus). - Worked with Kubernetes Custom Resources (bonus). - Depth of knowledge with Azure (bonus). - Airflow/Big Data Orchestration experience (bonus). - IaC experience (bonus).
