Role Description The Underwriting Analyst plays an important role within the Underwriting Department. Underwriting Analysts collaborate with Underwriters and other staff to deliver mortgage recommendations to lenders in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Job functions include, but are not limited to: - Management analysis - Market research - Property condition analysis - Valuation and financial analysis - On-site property inspections Duties and Responsibilities: - Perform comprehensive analysis and interpretation of multifamily real estate transactions in partnership with the team, ensuring adherence to lender guidelines. - Demonstrate ownership of your work, take on challenges and practice patience when learning new processes. - Reviews, tracks and maintains organization of due diligence for transactions. - Gathers site, neighborhood, and city data including demographics, sales and rent comparable(s), absorption surveys and occupancy studies. - Prepare property condition analysis and identify property level risks using engineering reports. - Analyze, review, and spread leases, rent rolls, operating statements, and collections of commercial real estate properties. - Crosstrain across the Company’s various products to cultivate ability to underwrite a variety of deal types. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree required; business, communications, or analytical-related field of study preferred. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. - Organized and detail oriented. - Excellent organizational, communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills. - Problem-solving skills to reflect level of responsibilities. - Self-motivated and solutions-oriented approach. Requirements - Experience in commercial real estate is strongly preferred. - 2+ years of professional experience with experience in underwriting/financial analytical capacity preferred. The Underwriter is responsible for ensuring that high quality service is delivered to clients in the process of completing transactions across agency, balance sheet, and/or CMBS executions. Underwriters are responsible for the completion and presentation of credit risk analyses of properties, markets, borrowers, and loans. In addition to performing your responsibilities autonomously, the Underwriter plays a leadership role across deal teams by guiding and shaping less experienced associates. - Analyze, interpret, and underwrite multifamily real estate transactions in compliance with respective agency guidelines. - Analyze and review borrower credit information and structure, third party reports, property financials and physical information to determine deal viability. - Cross-train across the Company’s various products to cultivate ability to underwrite a variety of deal types. - Accountable for ensuring actions and behavior drives a positive customer experience. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree required; business, communications, or analytical-related field of study preferred. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. - Experience with multifamily housing products. Requirements - 3+ years’ experience in underwriting/financial analytical capacity; experience in commercial real estate strongly preferred. - Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in underwriting, including a strong working knowledge of the key players in the industry. - Ability to identify and underwrite key credit and sponsor-related risks. - Ability to evaluate alternative risks carefully when structuring a transaction. - Demonstrated knowledge of property operations. - Experience in Affordable, Seniors, or FHA transaction types a plus but not required.
