Role Description The Business Development Manager will be responsible for creating realistic, dynamic and effective solutions for their clients. The successful incumbent will focus on acquiring new business, while maintaining client relationships to ensure repeat business. Furthermore, the incumbent will be responsible for accurately forecasting their pipeline and increasing revenue for the business. Duties & Responsibilities - Business Development - Constantly building own sales pipeline. - Consistently prospect, qualify and pursue new business leads. - Cold call prospective clients. - Actively visit clients to build and maintain rapport. - Create creative solutions for clients' supply chain needs. - Implement selling strategies / techniques. - Negotiate, sell and cross sell 4PL’s services. - Prepare and distribute quotations for clients. - Liaise with clients to give feedback on current contracts and sell potential new business. - Manage new and established account development for continued revenue and growth profits. - Use information systems to manage and control the supply cycle. - Update and maintain Logistics Management System. - Discuss market knowledge, limitations and ideas for services to clients with the Managing Director. - Sales Performance & Revenue - Ensure that sales pipeline is effectively managed. - Accurately conduct pipeline forecasting. - Report on pipeline management. - Consistently meet and exceed targets. - Ensure revenue is brought in and increased from new and existing clients. - Collaborate with the relevant teams to ensure sales commitments are deliverable. - Assume responsibility for every aspect of freight supply chain; ensure timely collection and delivery of products. - Maintain strong relationships with clients. - Operations & Coordination (when required) - Contact clients to follow-up on orders or deliveries. - Monitoring cargo movement. - Conduct daily planning and liaison with loading and off-loading contact points. - Maintain a record of all outstanding purchase orders with external vendors. - Make arrangements with supply chain services for all orders to ensure material is delivered as per schedule. - Coordinate and schedule client meetings. - Maintain records of client details. - Any ad-hoc tasks that may be required. Qualifications - Senior certificate. - Relevant tertiary qualification would be beneficial. - Valid driver’s license and own transport. - South African Citizen. - 3 – 5 years within the logistics industry. - Sales or operational experience in a non-asset business or within a logistics brokerage would be an advantage. - Remote and client facing; available for network opportunities. - Extensive travel to South Africa while learning about the business.
