Purpose of Position EdReports Reviewers are experienced educators who collaboratively evaluate K-12 instructional materials for alignment to rigorous college- and career-ready standards, research-based practices, and overall quality. Their reviews directly inform free, publicly available reports that help districts make evidence-based curriculum decisions. This is a part-time, contract-based position requiring a commitment of 5-10 hours per week for a defined 10-16 week review period. Contractors are not eligible for EdReports employee benefits and are responsible for paying their own taxes. Additionally, applying, interviewing for, and being accepted into the pool of EdReports Reviewers does not guarantee placement on a review team. Key Responsibilities & Outcomes Key Responsibilities: - Review and analyze K-12 instructional materials across English Language Arts (ELA), ELA Foundational Skills, Mathematics, Pre-K, Science, and Multilingual Learner tools using EdReports’ evidence guides and scoring tools. - Assess curriculum alignment with college- and career-ready standards, including the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and research-based best practices and early literacy standards. - Participate in regular virtual team discussions and consensus-building meetings (typically evenings). - Document evaluation findings and draft clear, concise justifications to support scoring. - Contribute to comprehensive reports for publication on the EdReports website. - Engage in onboarding and ongoing learning to ensure evaluation consistency and rigor. - Collaborate with EdReports staff to improve feedback loops and final reports. Outcomes: - High-quality, timely contributions to published curriculum reviews. - Consistent application of evidence-based evaluation criteria. - Strengthened educator understanding of high-quality instructional materials. Qualifications Required: - Passion for EdReports’ mission and vision, our core values, and our commitment to Diversity, Belonging, Inclusion, and Equity. - 3+ years of experience in K-12 education (teaching, curriculum leadership, instructional coaching, or related roles). - Deep knowledge of standards-aligned and research-based instructional practices. - Strong writing, analytical, and collaboration skills. - Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a virtual team environment. - Commitment to meeting deadlines and participating in ongoing discussions. Preferred: - Experience with curriculum evaluation or instructional design. - Familiarity with EdReports tools, evaluation processes, and scoring methodologies. - Background in curriculum leadership or materials selection at a school or district level. Qualifications (Content Specific) Content Area Required Preferred Pre-K - Early childhood/elementary teaching experience - Deep expertise in developmentally appropriate practice and early learning research - Additional expertise in child development or support of Multilingual Learners or Special Populations; - Early childhood coaching and leadership experience; - Understanding of early childhood education political and policy landscape ELA - Deep understanding of Common Core State Standards and research-aligned instructional practices - Deep understanding of effective literacy practices - Additional expertise in the science of reading - Understanding of the literacy education political and policy landscape Math - Deep understanding of Common Core State Standards and research-aligned instructional practices - Deep understanding of effective Standards of Mathematical practices - Understanding of the mathematical education political and policy landscape - Understanding of the aspects of rigor in instructional materials MLL - Background teaching MLL students - Deep expertise in language development - Familiarity with state and national standards for literacy, math, and/or science - Certification in TESOL, ELD, or equivalent credentials (e.g., ESL, ESOL, bilingual education) from any state or recognized institution - Experience teaching core math or science to linguistically diverse learners - Understanding of the political and policy landscape related to English language development instruction and MLLs Foundational skills (ELA) - Experience in early literacy instruction - Deep expertise in foundational literacy skills, including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension - Strong knowledge of the Science of Reading research and its implications for instructional materials - Familiarity with state and national literacy standards, including their application in K-2 instruction - Additional expertise in supporting multilingual learners and students with disabilities in foundational skills development - Experience in early literacy coaching, curriculum development, or leadership roles in K-2 education - Understanding of the political and policy landscape related to foundational literacy and early reading instruction Science - Robust understanding of The Framework for K-12 Science Education and the Next Generation Science Standards, including phenomenon/problem driven instruction and three-dimensional learning. - Science teaching experience - Direct use with or supporting educators to use phenomena/problem-driven instructional materials - Understanding of the science education political and policy landscape Work Commitment & Compensation Time Commitment: - Review cycles typically last 10-16 weeks, requiring 3-10 hours per week depending on content area. - Participation in virtual meetings, independent review, and evidence collection. Compensation: - After receiving a Statement of Work and being placed on a review team, Reviewers can expect to receive a stipend ($250 - $2,900) for their work, with payments distributed upon completion of key milestones. - Compensation varies by role, content area, review process, and duration. Reviewer Application Process Note: Some stages may overlap (i.e., although the application window is 3 weeks, early applicants may be invited to Stage 2 and 3 within the first 3 weeks. Work Authorization Requirements All contractors must reside in and be authorized to work in the United States. EdReports does not sponsor employment visas or engage contractors residing outside the U.S Physical Requirements Work is normally performed in a remote office environment including, but not limited to standing and sitting for long periods of time; and fine-finger and hand manipulation to operate a computer and keyboard. Contractor is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing electronic information, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading.
