Job Requirements

Role Description We are seeking an experienced freelance researcher to assist Wikimedia Deutschland in mapping the product landscape of challenges and opportunities of Open Data, Open Governance, and Open Source with regard to the evolving generative AI ecosystem, especially in the Global Majority context. The report will guide and motivate WMDE and our collaborators towards the most effective projects to undertake or support in order to better understand how we could benefit Global Majority-representing cultural groups working towards free & open knowledge within the genAI ecosystem. The outcome should be a written report that includes: - Landscape mapping & actor analysis in the space of open data and mission-aligned AI training. - Conduct a concise analysis of key actors, dependencies, concepts, and ongoing processes. - Assess these results for their relevance to Wikimedia Deutschland regarding collaboration, product development, and funding opportunities within the Open Data & AI ecosystem. - Deliver a foundation for strategic decision-making and prioritised funding opportunities for Wikimedia Deutschland leadership. - Support Wikimedia in developing Wikimedia’s strategic stance on open dataset stewardship and reuse in the context of generative AI.
