Job Description

Unity Game Play Engineer

Red Games Co.

• Design, implement, and refine responsive, engaging gameplay systems and mechanics. • Develop player controls, character behaviors, game modes, progression systems, AI, physics interactions, animation systems, and other core gameplay features. • Work closely with game designers to translate concepts and prototypes into polished, scalable gameplay experiences. • Rapidly prototype new mechanics and iterate based on playtesting, player feedback, analytics, and creative direction. • Improve moment-to-moment game feel through responsive controls, clear feedback, satisfying interactions, and thoughtful pacing. • Write clear, maintainable, and performant code for cross-platform mobile games. • Collaborate with producers, designers, artists, animators, QA, and other developers to ensure games are fun, responsive, stable, and engaging. • Partner with game directors and producers to estimate work, evaluate technical approaches, improve development processes, and identify and mitigate project risks. • Build flexible tools and systems that allow designers and artists to efficiently create, tune, and iterate on gameplay content. • Optimize gameplay systems for performance across a wide range of iOS and Android devices. • Improve content, development, and build pipelines throughout production. • Contribute to a culture of ownership and continual improvement through knowledge sharing, constructive feedback, and participation in agile development. • Mentor junior and intermediate developers, helping them strengthen their technical skills and improve the quality of their work.

Job Requirements

  • Expert-level knowledge of Unity and C#.
  • At least five years of professional experience in Unity game development.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and shipping gameplay systems for commercial games.
  • Strong understanding of gameplay architecture, player controls, physics, animation, AI, state machines, progression systems, and game feel.
  • Proven ability to rapidly prototype, evaluate, and refine gameplay mechanics.
  • Experience collaborating closely with game designers, artists, and animators throughout development.
  • Strong knowledge of game engines, networking, performance optimization, graphics, and shaders.
  • Experience developing and optimizing games for iOS and Android platforms.
  • Ability to self-organize, lead technical efforts, and take ownership of features from concept through launch.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to balance technical quality, player experience, schedule, and project requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a schedule in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to quickly learn complex systems and new technologies.
  • A strong passion for games and creating high-quality player experiences.
  • Must be authorized to work lawfully in the United States.
