Role Description We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for Japanese-speaking music and audio professionals experienced in music production, audio engineering, lyric evaluation, musical analysis, and generative audio quality review. This role supports current and upcoming remote consulting opportunities focused on evaluating AI-generated music in Japanese. Selected professionals will assess lyrics, vocal performance, musicality, creativity, production quality, and prompt adherence while producing detailed annotations across genres, song structures, instrumentation, and audio characteristics. Key Responsibilities - Generative Music Evaluation - Compare AI-generated music samples and determine which output performs more effectively - Evaluate musicality, creativity, prompt adherence, vocal quality, and overall production - Assess lyrics, melody, arrangement, instrumentation, and stylistic consistency - Identify audio artifacts, unnatural vocal delivery, structural weaknesses, and production issues - Explain evaluation decisions clearly using appropriate musical and audio-engineering terminology - Japanese Lyrics & Vocal Review - Evaluate Japanese-language lyrics for accuracy, fluency, natural phrasing, and creative quality - Assess pronunciation, vocal expression, lyrical delivery, and alignment between words and music - Identify grammatical, cultural, contextual, or stylistic issues in generated lyrics - Review whether sung content maintains coherence across verses, choruses, and other song sections - Music Annotation & Classification - Classify tracks by genre, subgenre, musical style, and production characteristics - Annotate song structure, instrumentation, vocal qualities, rhythm, harmony, and arrangement - Apply structured taxonomies consistently across different tracks and musical categories - Document notable transitions, production techniques, and performance characteristics - Audio Quality & Training Data Review - Score music samples for suitability and quality within structured evaluation workflows - Review audio for mix balance, clarity, dynamics, frequency content, and production polish - Distinguish between creative variation and technical quality issues - Maintain consistent review standards across repeated assignments and calibration exercises Qualifications - At least 3 years of professional experience as a music producer, audio engineer, sound mixer, musician, composer, or related music professional - Native or near-native proficiency in Japanese - Strong English proficiency and the ability to follow detailed project instructions - Practical understanding of musical performance, theory, lyrics, arrangement, and production - Experience writing or reviewing lyrical music in Japanese - Strong listening skills and the ability to explain subjective musical judgments clearly - Availability to contribute at least 10 hours per week Requirements - A degree in music, audio engineering, music production, composition, performance, or a related field is helpful - Formal training covering musical performance, theory, composition, or lyric writing is highly relevant - Conservatory education, studio experience, or equivalent professional expertise may also be considered - Practical experience producing, recording, mixing, or evaluating Japanese-language music is especially valuable Nice to Have - Experience with digital audio workstations and professional recording or mixing workflows - Background in songwriting, lyric writing, vocal production, or music supervision - Familiarity with structured audio taxonomies, metadata tagging, or music classification - Experience evaluating generative music, synthetic vocals, or AI-assisted creative tools - Knowledge of multiple music genres and contemporary production standards - Previous involvement in audio annotation, AI evaluation, quality assurance, or training-data review - Strong understanding of Japanese linguistic nuance, pronunciation, writing systems, and cultural context Why This Opportunity - Apply Japanese-language and professional music expertise to structured remote project work - Contribute to high-quality generative music and audio evaluation workflows - Review creative outputs across lyrics, vocals, musical structure, and production quality - Work on flexible assignments aligned with music production and analytical listening strengths - Participate in a longer-term project with competitive hourly compensation Contract Details - Independent contractor role - Fully remote with flexible scheduling - Immediate project start - Expected commitment of at least 10 hours per week - Potential project duration of up to six months - Competitive rates between $30–$55 per hour depending on expertise and project scope - Weekly payments via Stripe or Wise - The selection process may include a resume review and a conversational interview of approximately 25 minutes - Projects may be extended, shortened, or adjusted depending on scope and performance - Work will not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution
