Staff Software Engineer – Databases
Grafana Labs
• Lead multi-quarter technical initiatives across various components • Own the architecture of core Tempo components • Design APIs for humans and agents • Drive operational excellence against concrete SLOs • Mentor engineers and contribute to open source • Collaborate with product and engineering teams • Participate in on-call and incident response
Job Requirements
- Technical leadership experience
- Deep systems experience in distributed data systems
- Proficient in Go or other systems languages (Rust, C, C++)
- Strong software craftsmanship
- Operational mindset
- Customer focus and pragmatism
- Leadership through writing and collaboration
- Experience with tracing, OpenTelemetry, or large-scale observability systems (bonus points)
- Experience operating multi-tenant, multi-cell SaaS infrastructure at scale on Kubernetes (bonus points)

• Develop and maintain robust, scalable, high-performance web applications using Node.js and React. • Collaborate directly with Product and Design teams to turn ideas and prototypes into real features. • Ensure code quality through development best practices (Clean Code, automated tests, code reviews). • Optimize existing architecture to support user base growth and ensure high availability. • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and complex bugs in production.
