Transportation Adjuster

• Manage a caseload of transportation bodily injury claims, including litigated and non-litigated exposures • Investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and resolve trucking and transportation related claims in accordance with company guidelines and regulatory requirements • Handle claims involving long-haul trucking, semi-trucks, and commercial transportation exposures • Review coverage, assess liability, and determine appropriate claim resolution strategies • Coordinate with defense counsel and support litigation management activities as needed • Maintain ownership of bodily injury claims and associated property damage exposures throughout the life of the claim • Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the claims management system • Communicate professionally with insureds, claimants, attorneys, vendors, and internal stakeholders • Ensure compliance with applicable state regulations and company policies • Negotiate settlements and support timely claim resolution strategies • Mentor less experienced team members and assist with claims handling guidance when appropriate • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned
Job Requirements
- 5+ years of experience handling transportation bodily injury claims required
- Experience handling long-haul trucking, semi-truck, or heavy transportation claims highly beneficial
- Commercial transportation experience, including limousine, shuttle, or tour bus claims, beneficial
- Exposure to litigated bodily injury claims required
- Ability to independently manage a caseload of approximately 115 to 120 claims
- Carrier experience highly beneficial; TPA experience also accepted
- Experience evaluating liability, damages, coverage, and settlement strategy
- Active adjuster license required
- Multi-jurisdictional licensing beneficial
- New York and California licensing or claims experience highly beneficial
- Ability to work Central or Eastern time zone business hours beneficial

• Delivers an industry-leading claim experience for all policyholders and claimants • Negotiates and settles total loss situations with policyholders and claimants • Prepares salvage vehicles for auction and oversees the end-to-end salvage process • Consistently makes prompt and courteous contact with every claim customer • Maintains and updates a diary/schedule for each claim in the adjuster’s pending • Responds to claim correspondence in a timely fashion with very high quality • Provides input for continuous development of claims guidelines and best practices • Recommends potential product developments and process improvements • Interacts and communicates effectively with customers, peers, vendors and managers • Engages in learning opportunities to build knowledge of personal lines claims, court decisions impacting the claims function, current guidelines in claims function, and policy changes and modifications.
• Investigate claims against insurance or other companies for personal, casualty, or property loss or damages • Attempt to effect out-of-court settlement with claimant • Handle complex losses locally unassisted up to designated authority; assist on larger losses • Examine claim form and other records to determine insurance coverage • Interview, telephone, or correspond with claimant and witnesses regarding claim • Consult police and hospital records and inspect property damage to determine extent of company's liability • Estimate cost of repair, replacement, or compensation • Prepare report of findings and negotiate settlement with claimant • Recommend litigation by legal department when settlement cannot be negotiated • Attend litigation hearings • Revise case reserves in assigned claims files to cover probable costs • Assist in preparing loss experience report to help determine profitability and calculate adequate future rates
• Perform in a support role as defined by the sponsoring department management • Complete non-complex projects assigned • Network with apprentices and Sedgwick colleagues • Shadow experts who investigate and assemble facts from an insurance perspective • Learn from business line leaders/experts to gain understanding of the insurance and engineering processes • Train on insurance coverages and principles • Assist with projects, observe meetings and inspections • Develop and present capstone project results to the Operating Committee at end of apprentice program • Support the organization's quality program(s)
