Title: DTL Finance Accountant Requisition Number: JR10011787 Remote Type: Hybrid Location: Madison, Wisconsin Category: Financial Time Type: Full time Job Category: Academic Staff Employment Type: Regular Job Profile: Accountant III Job Summary: Reporting to the Divisional Finance Associate Director, the Accountant III position performs complex accounting duties, prepares financial reports, monitors complex budgets, and develops documentation of accounting processes. This position ensures accurate review and reporting of Division for Teaching and Learning financial transactions. The Division for Teaching and Learning (DTL) has experienced significant expansion resulting in a portfolio of 16 departments and 12 subdepartments providing student support services, instructional support for faculty and mentors, student research opportunities, and testing services. This position will collaborate with staff in the division and across campus to ensure responsible stewardship of funds and collaboration. This position will perform a range of complex fiscal management activities including grant management, budget monitoring, reconciliations, and financial reporting. The accountant will be involved in the initiation, review, and approval of financial transactions. Key Job Responsibilities: - Leads and executes the development, organization, preparation, and updating of complex financial statements, journals, accounts, ledgers, and reports for various financial needs within an automated financial system to ensure accurate recording and reporting of financial transactions. - Prepares and analyzes financial reports, data and records, identifies discrepancies, investigates, and recommends solutions as needed. - Performs complex accounting and auditing reconciliations, journal entries, schedules, and reports. - Identifies, verifies, and audits financial charges, credits, and authorizes payments. - Answers questions and provides accounting related information to internal and external stakeholders according to established policies and procedures. - Analyzes financial information and makes recommendations to unit leadership. Key Job Responsibilities: - Monitors automated financial systems, develops, and documents controls to ensure system reliability and data integrity - Grant and proposal review. Including entry into RAMP - Performs complex accounting and auditing reconciliations, journal entries, schedules, and reports - Develops and manages complex work unit budgets, analyzing funding sources, operational needs, budget trends, and financial commitments - Forecasts budget balances and recommends corrective action as needed - Leads and executes the development, organization, preparation, and updating of complex financial statements, journals, accounts, ledgers, and reports for various financial needs within an automated financial system to ensure accurate recording and reporting of financial transactions - Answers questions and provides accounting related information to internal and external stakeholders according to established policies and procedures - Prepares and analyzes financial reports, data and records, identifies discrepancies, investigates, and recommends solutions as needed - Facilitates trainings and provides financial guidance to management and staff Special projects as assigned Department: - Division for Teaching and Learning, Division Administration Compensation: - The starting salary for the position is $72,000 (but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications). - This position offers a comprehensive benefits package, including generous paid time off, competitively priced health/dental/vision/life insurance, tax-advantaged savings accounts, and participation in the nationally recognized Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) pension fund. Required Qualifications: - Three or more years of progressively responsible fiscal management experience including accounting, financial reporting, and budgeting. - Strong and demonstrated understanding of financial operations and reporting. - Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across an organization at all levels. Preferred Qualifications: - Experience using financial and research administration software such as RAMP and Workday as well as the ability to query and compile financial data from the systems. - Experience with post-award grant management and reporting. - Demonstrated experience in financial management in a higher education setting.
