• Build the frontend layer of the Portable Platform: Design and ship the frontend architecture that lets React engineers write once and run across web and React Native. The abstraction has to be clean enough that product engineers never have to think about which runtime they’re targeting. • Lead the React Web to React Native transition: Navigate the extraction from a pure React Web codebase to React Web plus React Native. Make the transition clean. The decisions made here shape how Canva’s frontend codebase evolves for years. • Own the web implementations of common abstractions: Build the web side of shared Portable Platform components — the pieces that work consistently across iOS, Android, and browser. You own the web runtime slice of that contract. • Support the upskilling of frontend engineers: Six hundred-plus frontend engineers are moving from a world where they only had to think about web. Help them understand the new mental model — through code standards, documentation, design reviews, and direct collaboration. • Bring SSR and React Server Components into the picture: Server-side rendering and RSC are part of this story — particularly how a backend wires up to the portable frontend layer. This isn’t the headline, but it matters, and you’ll need to reason about it well. • Stay hands-on: Staff engineers at Canva ship code. You’ll be in the codebase, writing design docs, committing to production. The architecture work and the engineering work aren’t separate here.

• Make engineers more productive every day. Continuously improve the systems, workflows, and tooling that support software development across Chainguard. • Create opinionated, self-service platform capabilities that allow engineering teams to focus on solving customer problems rather than managing infrastructure. • Own and evolve our software delivery systems, ensuring builds, testing, releases, and deployments are fast, reliable, secure, and scalable. • Drive operational excellence through SLOs, observability, automation, capacity planning, and continuous improvement. • Lead a highly experienced team of senior and principal engineers. Remove obstacles, create clarity, and foster an environment where engineers can do exceptional work. • Manage without micromanaging — set goals and create conditions for the team to execute. Ask once and trust the follow-through. • Advance Infrastructure as Code, GitOps, and platform automation initiatives that improve consistency and reduce operational burden. • Help define and execute the roadmap for the Internal Developer Platform while balancing short-term needs with long-term investments. • Partner closely with application teams, security teams, and engineering leadership to understand developer needs and prioritize platform investments.

Platform Engineer II

The operating system for high-performance organizations.

Full TimeRemoteTeam 501-1,000Since 2005H1B No Sponsor

Role Description I'm looking for a Platform Engineer II to support day-to-day operations of our AWS GovCloud infrastructure and help us drive meaningful improvements to observability and stability as we grow. This is a collaborative, hands-on role. - Own day-to-day operations and maintenance of our AWS GovCloud environment, including EKS cluster management, EC2, RDS/Aurora, ElastiCache, S3, and IAM. - Manage deployments of new features and fixes across commercial and GovCloud environments, coordinating with application teams through structured intake and ad hoc request processes. - Build and maintain reusable Terraform modules, Helm charts, and CI/CD pipeline templates (GitLab CI) that enforce organizational standards for scalability, compliance, and observability. - Diagnose cross-cutting infrastructure issues — networking misconfigurations, IAM permission boundaries, Kubernetes scheduling failures — evaluating blast radius and downstream impact before proposing solutions. - Partner with application teams to translate platform changes and new standards into clear, actionable guidance that reduces friction across the organization. - Drive improvements to environment observability and stability using Datadog, and participate in on-call rotation with full production ownership. Qualifications - 3+ years of experience in platform, infrastructure, or DevOps engineering. - Strong proficiency in Linux administration in production environments, including RHEL-based system management. - Proven hands-on experience with Kubernetes (EKS preferred), Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI or comparable tooling. - Experience deploying and managing infrastructure in AWS. - Strong cross-functional communication skills, with the ability to translate platform changes into clear guidance for application teams. Requirements - Experience working in AWS GovCloud, FedRAMP, or IL4-regulated environments (even better). - Background in defense contracting or government environments (even better). - Experience with configuration management and automation tooling (Ansible, AWX, and Packer) (even better). - Familiarity with Python or shell scripting for operational tooling, or experience with Datadog or a comparable observability platform (even better). Benefits This role is not eligible for sponsorship at this time.
