Role Description The Medical and Eldercare Advocate serves as a trusted resource for clients seeking guidance, education, and support in navigating complex healthcare, elder care, and related service systems. This role empowers individuals and families by providing information, advocacy support, and resource coordination to help clients make informed decisions and effectively advocate for their own needs. - Assist clients in navigating healthcare, elder care, and community support systems. - Provide education and guidance regarding healthcare services, benefits, care options, and available resources. - Support clients and family members in understanding healthcare processes and advocating for their own care needs. - Research and identify appropriate resources, referrals, and support services based on individual client circumstances. - Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions and resource recommendations. - Communicate effectively with clients, healthcare providers, community agencies, and other stakeholders while adhering to confidentiality requirements. - Demonstrate knowledge of healthcare terminology, billing practices, insurance processes, and related healthcare systems. - Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations and other applicable privacy and confidentiality standards. - Exercise sound judgment when addressing sensitive client situations and complex care-related concerns. - Collaborate with internal teams and external organizations as needed to support client outcomes. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Social Work (BSW) or a minimum of five years of related experience in hospital systems, hospice care, geriatric care management, or a closely related field. - Strong understanding of healthcare systems and care coordination processes. - Working knowledge of HIPAA regulations, third-party payer systems, CPT codes, and healthcare documentation requirements. - Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a remote work environment. - Excellent verbal communication, active listening, and client engagement skills. - Strong organizational and time-management abilities. - Demonstrated professionalism, composure, empathy, and sound judgment when working with clients experiencing challenging circumstances. - Knowledge of medical billing processes and healthcare reimbursement systems. - Experience supporting individuals with special needs and their families. - Familiarity with Employee Assistance Program (EAP) services and functionality. - Experience working with Disability Review Organizations (DROs) and related healthcare advocacy processes. - Exceptional client service and relationship-building skills. - Ability to explain complex healthcare information in a clear and understandable manner. - Strong problem-solving and resource research capabilities. - Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately. - Effective critical thinking and decision-making skills. - Proficiency with remote communication technologies and standard office software applications. Role Description This position is full-time (40 hours/week) Monday-Friday, normal business hours. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime. You’ll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. Primary Responsibilities: - Expert knowledge in all facility outpatient coding types: Emergency - Identify appropriate assignment of ICD-10 Codes, CPT and modifiers for facility services while adhering to the official coding guidelines and established client coding guidelines of the assigned facility - Adhere to the ethical standards of coding as established by AAPC and/or AHIMA - Adhere to and maintain required levels of performance in both coding quality and productivity as established by Optum - Understand the Medicare Ambulatory Payment Classification (APC) codes - Query physicians and forms when appropriate - Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS coding systems, strong medical terminology - Knowledge of NCCI edit policies, Medicare LCD and NCD policies - Knowledge of professional ER leveling - Maintain up-to-date coding knowledge by reviewing materials disseminated/recommended by the QM Manager, Coding Operations Managers, and Director of Coding/Quality Management, among others - Participate in coding department meetings and educational events - Additional responsibilities as identified by manager You’ll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.
