Job Description
STEM & Physics Teacher – Online High School
Williamsburg Learning
• Teach live, synchronous online classes during the school day • Deliver engaging presentations that challenge students, spark curiosity, and promote deep thinking • Lead virtual classrooms of approximately 20 to 40 students • Build strong relationships, using Socratic questioning, and fostering active participation and discussion • Teach students how to think, not what to think, by prioritizing reasoning and inquiry • Model effective learning habits and encourage reflection and growth • Use observation and student data to adjust instruction in real time • Establish clear expectations for behavior and participation and maintain active supervision of students • Secure substitutes according to WL’s policy when necessary • Plan lessons aligned to syllabus objectives and prepare materials • Ensure Canvas courses are set up accurately each semester • Grade student work and provide timely feedback that supports student growth • Monitor student progress, attendance, and engagement, and identify students needing support • Provide targeted interventions and host weekly office hours • Communicate clearly and professionally with students, parents, and colleagues • Maintain accurate records related to attendance and student needs • Participate in required professional development activities
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) with demonstrated expertise and passion for the subject area
- Current teaching license in the subject area
- Ability to instruct a variety of High School STEM subjects, including Physics
- Quick learner with technology and proficient in using email, managing files, and recording and reporting electronically
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Self-motivated, organized, flexible, and solutions-oriented
- Alignment with Williamsburg Learning’s educational philosophy and mission
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
- Prior history of working with middle- and high school-aged students (preferred)
- Experience teaching in your subject area (preferred)
- High level of comfort with technology, including AI, video conferencing, and presentation tools (preferred)
- Prior use of Canvas or other Learning Management Systems (preferred)
- Familiarity with Zoom and Google Workspace (preferred)
