Role Description As our ML engineer, you'd own our cloud ML infrastructure, building it out closely with the CTO, who leads the technical direction. You'd work alongside our full-stack engineer to get ML capabilities into the product, and with the materials scientists running the experiments your models train on. - Stand up and run our production ML stack on GCP. - Design and automate the pipelines that move experimental data out of the lab and into training. - Bring real engineering discipline to the models: CI/CD, testing, dataset and checkpoint versioning. - Help shape how it all fits together, alongside the CTO. - Contribute to the next generation of our modelling with the founding team. You'd be early enough to shape how we build, and the systems you stand up will support the platform as it grows. And you'd be working with materials science data, closer to the underlying science than most ML roles ever get. Qualifications - Production ML experience: you've built and run ML systems before and can own your delivery, with the CTO setting the wider technical direction. - Strong Python and production ML experience (PyTorch or similar), with hands-on containerised deployment to GCP or comparable platforms. - A track record of building and running ML/data pipelines in small teams, comfortable when not much infrastructure is handed to you. - A systems mindset: you decouple cleanly, think in modules, and can hold the shape of a whole pipeline in your head. - Genuine interest in the underlying problem. • Design and Build high-quality, scalable product features using C#, .NET, and ASP.NET WebAPI, while contributing to Node.js backend services. • Own and Optimize automated CI/CD pipelines leveraging TeamCity and Octopus Deploy to ensure seamless, repeatable deployments. • Lead automation and environment provisioning initiatives by writing advanced PowerShell scripts and infrastructure orchestration patterns. • Collaborate with software architects and engineers to design application telemetry, logging strategies, and enterprise messaging systems via Azure Service Bus. • Maintain repository strategies, branch policies, and dependency management using Git and NuGet, while integrating test-coverage reporting (dotCover, ReSharper) into the delivery pipeline. • Anchor Scrum practices by actively participating in grooming, sizing, and breaking down complex infrastructure or product tasks into thin slices of deliverable work.

• Find and remove bottlenecks across engineering and the wider business, applying DevOps and agile thinking rather than a fixed toolset • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code that get work shipped reliably • Review, refactor, and harden prototype and AI-generated apps from non-engineering teams into secure, production-grade systems (core VibeOps work) • Add authentication, tests, dependency and secret scanning, and proper deployment paths to department-built tools before they touch real data • Strengthen DevSecOps practices: dependency scanning, SAST/DAST, security smell testing, and proactive vulnerability management • Build and maintain automations and integrations that drive efficiency across Support, Onboarding, Sales, and Engineering • Design and troubleshoot APIs • Support compliance requirements and security testing workflows • Partner closely with non-technical teams to understand what they've built and bring it up to standard
