Role Description BlackEdge Capital is hiring a Trading Strategy Software Engineer to join our technology team and build the systems at the heart of a high frequency, machine learning driven trading effort that operates at the nanosecond level. This is a focused, ambitious initiative at an early stage, which means real ownership and the chance to shape the systems and the codebase from the ground up. Members of our executive team are hands on in this work right now, so you will build alongside the people setting the firm's long-term technical and trading direction. You will own performance critical software in C++, co-design the hot path with our FPGA hardware engineers, and work shoulder to shoulder with researchers to move machine learning models from idea to live trading. This is a role for someone energized by sitting at the intersection of low-level systems, custom hardware, and applied research, where every nanosecond on the path from signal to order matters. - Design, build, and relentlessly optimize nanosecond level trading systems in C++, owning code from architecture through live production. - Partner closely with hardware engineers on FPGA integration, co-designing the software/hardware logic split and communication across that boundary. - Work directly with researchers to take machine learning signals from idea to development to production by integrating them into our automated trading system. - Keep the codebase clean: we favor a pragmatic, deliberately chosen subset of modern C++ that prioritizes simplicity, clarity, and maintainability. Qualifications - Strong command of modern C++ in performance critical systems, with the judgment to keep code simple and clear. - Deep understanding of operating system design, cache behavior, memory, and concurrency and how they can be tuned to extract performance. - A demonstrated ability to design and reason about latency critical software; you think in nanoseconds, not just milliseconds. - You enjoy working across boundaries and communicate well with people from diverse backgrounds and skills. Requirements - Hands on experience with FPGAs, HLS, or close software/hardware co-design. - Kernel bypass networking (ef_vi / OpenOnload, DPDK) and low-level network programming. - Exposure to machine learning, quantitative research, or production model deployment. - Familiarity with futures markets or market microstructure. • Own features from discovery to production: You will partner directly with the other teams to scope ideas, design architectures, and ship features. • Build and refine the gift card experience, from buying a card to redeeming it. • Develop the back-end that powers it: APIs, services, and data models. • Work on the partner side too, the B2B self-serve product and the embeddable widgets that let other companies plug Joy_ in. • Keep the codebase healthy, with shared components, design tokens, sensible tests, and an eye on performance and accessibility.

• Design and evolve scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems across frontend, backend, and data layers. • Lead architectural decisions, define engineering standards, and drive Architecture Decision Records (ADRs). • Own and deliver complex technical initiatives end-to-end, translating business goals into actionable technical roadmaps. • Mentor engineers and elevate technical excellence through mentoring, knowledge sharing, and best-practice development. • Champion AI-assisted engineering workflows and help teams leverage AI-first development practices. • Drive improvements in testing, CI/CD, observability, system reliability, and operational excellence. • Collaborate closely with Product, Design, Data, and Engineering leadership to influence strategy and deliver customer value. • Manage operational and technical dependencies with external vendors and partners, including platforms such as Google Workspace, domain providers, email services, and RankingCoach.

• Build and maintain backend services in Node.js, including serverless components (for example, functions-as-a-service and API gateways) • Design and integrate APIs that power web frontends, partner integrations, and AI-augmented features • Contribute to frontend work using modern state management and interaction patterns, with an emphasis on accessibility and keyboard-friendly UI • Write clean, well-structured, and well-tested code with a strong focus on automated unit and integration tests • Support the design and maintenance of workflows using orchestration tools such as workflow engines or state machines • Contribute to event-driven and asynchronous processing using queues, pub/sub, or similar messaging patterns • Improve reliability by strengthening error handling, retries, and failure recovery paths • Develop and evolve RESTful APIs within a modular or microservices-style architecture • Integrate with large internal and external systems, including data platforms and institutional services • Help optimize performance and scalability of services, including thoughtful schema and access-pattern design for SQL or NoSQL stores • Implement secure data handling practices aligned with privacy and compliance expectations • Investigate and resolve issues in production environments, collaborating with more senior team members where needed • Contribute to logging, monitoring, and debugging workflows so the team can see and trust what the system is doing in real time • Support deployment and release processes in a cloud-native environment, including reviewing and improving pipelines over time • Work closely with distributed, cross-functional teams building large-scale platforms in domains such as education, financial services, or enterprise SaaS • Participate in code reviews, design sessions, and technical planning • Take ownership of features spanning UI, API, and data layers, driving them from definition through to production rollout • Continually grow your skills, staying current with modern Node.js, cloud, and frontend practices
