VP, Finance

• Own the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process; ensure timeliness, accuracy, and GAAP compliance across all financial statements; maintain the general ledger, oversee journal entries, account reconciliations, and consolidations • Own complex areas critical to biotech including R&D and clinical trial expense accruals, stock-based compensation, leases, collaboration and licensing arrangements, revenue recognition, and equity/financing transactions; document positions in clear technical memos • Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors; lead the annual financial statement audit from planning through issuance, including audit schedules, PBC requests, and management responses • Manage the company’s cash position, bank relationships, and investment accounts; oversee cash flow forecasting, wire approvals, and operating account controls; ensure clear visibility into the company’s liquidity runway at all times • Prepare accurate and timely internal financial reports (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) for the CFO, executive team, and Board; design, implement, and maintain a robust internal control environment and accounting policies consistent with GAAP and SOX-readiness standards • Oversee federal, state, and local tax filings (or coordinate with external advisors); manage R&D tax credits and all regulatory reporting requirements • Evaluate, implement, and optimize accounting systems and finance tools (ERP, expense management, procurement workflows); deploy AI strategically and responsibly; scale and modernize the finance tech stack to meet the demands of a growing clinical-stage biotech • Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, payroll providers, and accounting consultants; hold vendors accountable to scope, budget, and timeline • Directly manage, develop, and retain the finance team; serve as the day-to-day mentor and primary resource for finance staff; build a high-performance culture within the function
Job Requirements
- 12+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience including controllership leadership, with a strong track record in high-growth, scaling environments; at least 3+ years in a senior finance leadership role at a clinical-stage or commercial biotech or pharma company
- Deep US GAAP and technical accounting expertise, with direct ownership of external audits and ICFR/internal controls
- Demonstrated track record owning the month-end close process end-to-end, leading external audits from planning through issuance, and managing treasury operations hands-on (not just supervisory)
- CPA required; Big Four or mid-tier public accounting background strongly preferred
- Experience managing a lean finance team; comfortable being both a manager and an individual contributor as the business demands
- Proven ability to build financial systems, processes, and controls from the ground up in a fast-moving environment
- Public-company finance experience strongly preferred - you have operated within the rigor of a publicly traded company (or led a company through becoming one) and know what it demands
- Builder mentality, high integrity, and the ability to earn trust quickly - the CFO’s most relied-upon operational partner in running the day-to-day of the finance organization

• Support the CFO and FP&A teams in developing financial models and preparing budgets. • Analyze performance and deliver insights that drive decision-making. • Collaborate with team members to prepare monthly and quarterly reporting packages. • Assist with monitoring and analyzing monthly financial results, identifying trends and budget variances. • Prepare and automate KPI dashboards and financial reports to enhance visibility.
