• Manage a staff of reporters with an emphasis on the delivery of news and distinct team analysis; generate and plan story and video ideas. • Establish process and priorities to balance content assignments that include breaking news, daily coverage, live blog contributions, long-form projects and video filming and editing. • Assist with the big-picture, conceptual vision for the vertical, including long-term direction; generating and planning story ideas; expansion opportunities. • Assist with overall NFL news decisions, coordination and editing. • Work to bring a distinctive, compelling, and authentic voice to all digital media products. • Maintain an understanding and proficiency of subscription and engagement metrics. • Maintain proficiency and knowledge of SEO (best practices available). • Contribute to oversight of staffing assignments, editorial resources and process. • Maintain an updated and accurate forward-looking editorial budget on Airtable. • Collaborate with staff on story and video ideas. • Collaborate with the Visuals team on best execution for stories with a clear visual element. • Collaborate with Audience team on headlines, URLs and best publication times. • Edit and publish stories via WordPress

• Follow internal documentation to improve content accuracy and quality of provided lessons • Review and approve college-level lessons in your field • Verify content is accurate, on-level, and appropriate for the related course

• Review and revise college-level lessons in Art History • Check for accuracy and clarity of lessons to ensure quality resource for students • Perform accuracy checks on provided college-level lessons • Make minor edits to lessons as necessary

• Editing, publishing and writing – 50% of time • Assigning and editing 2-5 feature, op-ed, analysis and other editorial pieces per week, working closely with external contributors to hone pitches for assignment and delivering substantive, line and copy edits in a timely manner • Packaging pieces for publishing: writing sharp, catchy headlines and deks; choosing attractive, editorially relevant and interesting imagery; utilizing AP style; uploading and formatting pieces in Planetizen’s content management system and scheduling them for release. • Taking an active role in shaping editorial processes, content types and overall editorial ideation, including proactively identifying and problem-solving barriers to success and ideating opportunities for improvement and growth • Writing short editorial posts (like monthly wrap-ups and Planetizen’s Federal Action Tracker), and contributing unique feature, op-ed, analysis or other editorial content pieces • Sourcing, summarizing and publishing ~30 pieces of essential urban planning news per week for Planetizen’s aggregated newsfeed. • Writing and formatting templated posts for Planetizen’s social media feeds and newsletters • Using analytics and other audience engagement metrics to monitor and optimize editorial content performance according to Planetizen’s strategic goals • Completing editing and quality assurance tasks for the Planetizen Guide to Graduate Urban Planning Programs, Planetizen Courses, AICP Exam Prep, and other Planetizen products.
