The Substation Engineer is the plant engineering representative at the launch of all projects and will control the technical execution of the project through closeout. The Lead Substation Engineer is accountable to define plant solutions & tools and to support proposal tender offerings and project execution. Essential Responsibilities: - Lead and coordinate all technical aspects of the substations and balance of plant for large and HV substation projects. - Identify key internal & external stakeholders and their needs such as technical information and execution strategy. - Accountable for engineering activities on the assigned project including: - Schedule development & updates - Design safety - Planning & tracking project design reviews - Design optimization - On Time Delivery - Risk management - Quality control/quality assurance - Interface with internal and external team members such as the Project Engineering Director, discipline PEM’s, Designers, CAD Operators, Project Managers, and support organizations. - Prepare and deliver the concept and detail design for: - Power single line drawing - Physical substation general arrangement layouts - Plan and elevation drawings - Equipment erection drawings - Construction details - Layouts for high voltage bus, cable, high voltage equipment, electrical clearances, conduit, cable, and wiring - Auxiliary power, grounding, lightning and control buildings - Produce optimized S/S outdoor general arrangements for AIS and indoor arrangements for HV/MV/LV equipment for control buildings and GIS buildings. - Deliver Technical specifications and data sheets for all major HV equipment. - Oversee related studies and calculations as well as development of the bills of material. - Manage a combined project BOM & MDL from multiple sources, writing and/or reviewing High Voltage equipment technical specifications, supporting sourcing for vendor quotations and reviews. - Act as the single point of contact for technical issues for the customer and project manager. - Responsible for technical change control and risk management. - Respond to site RFI and conduct field inspections for compliance verifications. - Accountable for meeting customer engineering CTQ’s. - Support proposals and tenders for HVDC or substation projects including estimating man hours and the application of major equipment. - Must have completed similar HV S/S design projects in the past. Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college (BSEE strongly preferred). - Minimum of 5 years of experience in Transmission & Distribution substation engineering for electric utilities and renewable energy power plants. - Experience as an Electrical Project Engineer in substation type applications, including primary (outdoor) substation design and required studies. Requirements - Ability and willingness to travel up to 20%, including international travel. Desired Characteristics - PE License or P.Eng License. - In-depth experience applying High Voltage substation North American standards & guidelines (IEEE & ANSI standards and codes such as the NEC and the NESC). - Experience with GE GIS equipment. - Strong knowledge of the design aspects for HV/MV equipment including reactors, capacitors, transformers, Breakers, Disconnect switches, BOP, etc. - Professional Engineering license in the United States and willing to review and seal your work and the work of others under your supervision. - Strong knowledge on contract and project management, Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC), or Engineering equipment package (EEP) project execution. - Strong understanding of civil engineering and substation related structural design requirements. - Working knowledge of applicable design calculations for primary & secondary equipment. - Field-testing and commissioning experience with safe work habits. - Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to handle multiple projects simultaneously. - Excellent personal computer skills, including programming and design automation, and familiarity with AutoCAD, BIM and Revit strongly desired.
