Role Description Shape the bright futures of Grand Canyon University students as an online adjunct faculty member for the online division in the College of Education. Whether students are looking to start or advance their career as a teacher or administrator, GCU offers bachelor’s and master’s in education degrees in key areas including early childhood education, elementary education, and secondary education degrees, TESOL and special education. As an adjunct faculty member, you’ll provide program instruction in an online format, incorporating innovative teaching methodologies, cutting-edge technologies and other industry trends reflecting advancements in your discipline. Grand Canyon University is in search of an Online Adjunct Instructor who is qualified to instruct the courses listed below: - ELM-490A: Student Teaching for Elementary Education: Session A "Session A is the first of two 8-week sessions of the student teaching experience that includes practical classroom experiences, research, analysis, and teaching to develop a Student Teaching Evaluation of Performance (STEP). The teacher candidate will have a GCU course instructor, a GCU faculty supervisor, and be placed in an approved school with a certified cooperating teacher/mentor." - ELM-451: Three-Dimensional Teaching in STEM Classrooms "In this course, teacher candidates will examine the fundamentals of three-dimensional teaching and learning and how to integrate these concepts into the planning and implementation of curricula that motivate students to innovate and nurture their creativity. Teacher candidates evaluate the elements of three-dimensional learning: practices, crosscutting concepts, and disciplinary core ideas. Focus is placed on creating instruction with appropriate scaffolding that encourages students to fully engage in STEM activities." - ELM-463: STEM Tools in the Modern Classroom "Teacher candidates, particularly those who intend to teach courses focused on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), need to be equipped with technological skills in order to meet the demands and expectations of the changing educational environment. In this course, teacher candidates will research current and emerging technologies, examine their use in enhancing teaching and learning, and explore approaches to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to utilize them appropriately." - EDU-455: Christian Education: Philosophy and Methods "This course is an introduction to the philosophy, theory, and practice of teaching in Christian schools. A basic analysis of educational philosophies within the framework of a Christian worldview is central to the course. Candidates construct a personal and guiding philosophy of Christian education incorporating biblical principles, and develop lesson plans using biblical integration and perspectives. Candidates may also have an opportunity to participate in observing and delivering instruction in an ACSI or CCSC approved K-12 education setting. This course provides required components as a part of the ACSI certification application process." Qualifications - Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction, Instructional Leadership, Elementary Education, Learning and Teaching, Teaching Innovation or related field (Preferred). - Master's Degree in Education, Elementary Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field AND 2 areas of exceptional expertise (Minimum). - All instructors must have a valid state teacher certification in elementary education. - A minimum of three years of experience as an elementary classroom teacher or elementary instructional specialist or 1-8 team lead or 1-8 department chair or elementary curriculum coach or new teacher mentor of 1-8 teachers. Responsibilities - Facilitate weekly main discussion forums to engage students in the online classroom. - Adhere to weekly grading requirements, deadlines, and timeframes. - Respond to students’ questions and emails within the established timeframes. - Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.
