Role Description The Coder Lead acts as trainer, resource and mentor for other coders and staff. Is responsible for coordinating the daily coding workflow in assignment of ICD-10 and CPT codes. Monitors and assesses quality and production standards of coding staff. Serves as a resource for complex coding/billing issues. - Train staff on processes, policies, coding, including new hire training and shadowing - Assist with coder continuing education; development and presentation - Daily coordination of coding staff assignments, volume, and workflow - Perform coder quality reviews - Act as a subject matter expert and resource for staff, troubleshooting difficult problems and finding solutions - Act as a liaison between physicians and support staff to resolve issues involving coding, billing, and documentation requirements and procedures - Provide input on employee evaluations - Reporting - Charge lag weekly report out, Bi-weekly report out to clinics, quality reporting, production reporting, running special reporting as requested by clinic or revenue cycle leaders - Monitor Customer Service WQ for coding concerns - Fill in for coding when areas are short Qualifications - Associates in related field upon hire Requirements - 5 – 7 years coding experience in a health care organization - Completion of college level courses in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, disease processes and pharmacology

Role Description This position is located in the Health Administration Service (HAS), Health Information Management (HIM) section at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System. MRTs (Coder) are skilled in classifying medical data from patient health records. PLEASE READ THE DUTIES SECTION OF THIS ANNOUNCEMENT FOR FURTHER INFORMATION ON REMOTE WORK STATUS. - This position is designated as remote.
