Role Description Make an impact while you learn. The Semester of Service Program offers students a volunteer project-based opportunity to support Federal missions, gaining hands-on experience & valuable career-ready skills. Students must be enrolled at least half-time in an accredited trade school, technical or vocational institute, junior college, college, university, or other accredited educational institution, & participation must be with the permission of the institution at which the student is enrolled. This vacancy announcement will be open from May 12, 2026 to May 18, 2026 or when 25 applications have been received. The vacancy will close on whichever day the first of these conditions are met. If the application limit is reached on the same day the announcement opened, the open and close date will be the same. Candidates are encouraged to read the entire announcement before submitting their application packages. The student volunteer will support the Office of Alumni Affairs by conducting research, data analysis, and program evaluation activities that enhance alumni engagement initiatives and strengthen connections between U.S. exchange program alumni and the Department of State. Specifically, they will assist the Office Director & Deputy in coordinating the Alumni Roadmap Initiative, which includes: - Conducting research on best practices in alumni engagement and community building strategies; - Analyzing alumni participation data to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for enhanced engagement; - Evaluating the effectiveness of current alumni programs and provide recommendations for improvement. They will also support the U.S. Alumni Team on its Career Connections (CC) events, including the large July CCDC event at NFATC and planned CC events in Pittsburgh (Sept) and Phoenix (Dec): - Support program evaluation activities for the Career Connections D.C. event; - Assist with research on career development resources and networking best practices; - Help develop post-event surveys and analyze participant feedback; - Contribute to the creation of event materials and participant resources. Learning Outcomes: The student will gain practical experience in program evaluation, data analysis, event planning research, and international exchange program administration while contributing meaningfully to the Department's alumni engagement mission. Supervision: All work will be conducted under the direct supervision of Office of Alumni Affairs staff (primarily Office Director or Global Alumni Coordinator), with regular guidance and feedback provided throughout the project period. Qualifications - Applicants will be considered based on their knowledge, skills or abilities related to project needs. - Previous professional or volunteer work supporting public events preferred. Requirements - To qualify, you must be enrolled not less than half-time in an accredited trade school, technical or vocational institute, junior college, college, university, or other accredited educational institution. - You also must be in good academic standing as defined by your institution. - Attach a copy of your transcripts to your application package for verification. - Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 out of 4.0 scale. - Students studying abroad are ineligible for application. - All remote work must be completed domestic within the United States.
