Role Description We are looking for an experienced Lead QA automation engineer to join our upcoming platform engineering team and to take ownership of establishing and scaling our test automation practices across multiple development teams. This is a hands-on role where you will: - Design, implement, and maintain automation frameworks. - Mentor existing QA specialists. - Collaborate closely with developers and DevOps to ensure seamless and efficient quality assurance processes across the entire software lifecycle. What you'll do - Introducing, building, and maintaining automated testing suites (E2E, API, integration, and regression) for existing and new systems, using Playwright as the core technology. - Defining and implementing best practices, standards, and documentation for test automation, ensuring consistency, scalability, and maintainability across teams. - Collaborating with DevOps to integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and improve the overall quality gate process. - Continuously auditing and evolving testing frameworks, promoting testability and automation-first principles in ongoing development. - Evaluating and integrating AI-assisted QA tooling, ensuring practical adoption where it delivers measurable value. - Mentoring, coaching, and upskilling manual QA specialists in automation approaches and effective testing strategies. - Championing an AI-first mindset within QA practices. - Actively contributing to the QA Guild, sharing insights, driving process improvements, and helping shape the company-wide QA strategy. - Supporting development teams with quality metrics, root cause analysis, and structured feedback to enhance reliability, performance, and user experience. Qualifications - Proven experience in building and maintaining automated testing frameworks in brownfield projects, ideally with Playwright or a similar modern framework. - Strong understanding of different automation approaches – including end-to-end, API, performance, and BDD-style testing. - Hands-on experience in integrating automated tests with CI/CD environments and collaborating with DevOps on automation processes. - Deep understanding of QA methodologies, quality metrics, and test design principles. - Excellent communication skills and ability to lead by example, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing across teams. - Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide QA engineers, helping them transition from manual to automated testing. - Experience in cross-team collaboration and proactive involvement in early stages of product design and planning. - A mindset focused on continuous improvement, innovation, and practical problem-solving within the QA domain. - Familiarity with AI-powered QA tooling (e.g., LLM-assisted test generation, intelligent test prioritization). Key Responsibilities: - Design, develop, and maintain automated test suites for UI end-to-end testing using Playwright, ensuring comprehensive coverage of user-facing functionality across web applications. - Implement and maintain API test automation using tools such as Postman and/or REST Assured, validating endpoints, contracts, and integration flows. - Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins) to enable fast feedback loops within the development workflow. - Collaborate closely with developers, product owners, and UX designers to understand acceptance criteria and translate them into actionable, maintainable test cases. - Analyse and report test results clearly, track defects with appropriate severity and reproducibility information, and follow up until resolution. - Participate in sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives, contributing a quality-first perspective throughout the software development lifecycle. - Contribute to the continuous improvement of the test framework architecture, tooling standards, and automation best practices within the team. - Perform exploratory and regression testing as needed to complement automated coverage.
