Role Description Working remotely in Regina with others in the Regina Leader-Post virtual newsroom, the ideal candidate is an enterprising self-starter and team player with a sense for stories that resonate with Regina’s diverse readership. The candidate should be able to cultivate sources and break news on tight deadlines, while writing in a way that is clear, concise and engaging. What you’ll do: - Use social media and other digital tools to find out what’s breaking and what Saskatchewan people in real time are talking about and which quickly needs our attention. - Initiating and developing ideas for enterprise stories and projects. - Cultivating sources and establishing expertise to break stories and set the news agenda. Who you are: - A digital-first journalist, capable of writing clean copy quickly. - A strong writer, with the flexibility to write breaking news, compelling features and short form along with non-traditional story formats such as explainers and Q/As. - Have the drive and curiosity to dig deep and get answers. - An ability to identify trends and drivers behind the news that allows you to explain why and how, as well as what is happening. - A talent for explanatory journalism. Compensation - Base Salary: $45,625.32 - Employment offers presented to the selected candidate are based on a combination of qualifications, experience, responsibilities of the role and the candidate's location. - This is a unionized position subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement. A Bionews columnist is a patient or caregiver who shares about life with a rare or chronic disease. They write personal essays in a column format to inform, inspire, empathize, and advise. Their audience includes patients, caregivers, medical teams, and researchers. Columnists also write to a general audience interested in learning how to improve society's understanding and treatment of disease/disability communities. All columns are reviewed with a critical eye by professional editors who will work with columnists to smooth rough spots and help the columnist grow as a writer. This is a contract position. Please note you MUST be a member of the myelofibrosis community — patient prefered — in order to apply for this position.
