Key Responsibilities - Design and implement automation frameworks and test strategies that ensure system stability, resilience, and customer satisfaction. - Embed with engineering teams to guide and influence test design, architectural decisions, and development practices that produce built-in quality. - Work across the engineering organization to define patterns and practices for unit, integration, and end-to-end testing that align with CI/CD and deployment pipelines. - Lead initiatives that use AI-assisted testing, intelligent validation, and self-healing test automation to scale quality across teams. - Serve as a technical mentor and coach, teaching engineers how to write better tests, instrument better observability, and think critically about user outcomes. - Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to ensure user stories are testable, measurable, and aligned with customer needs. - Drive a shift-left quality culture by integrating test feedback early in design and development cycles. - Actively participate in design reviews, pairing sessions, and architecture discussions to improve system reliability and testability. - Partner with Platform and DevSecOps teams to build automated quality gates, release verification, and quality metrics dashboards. - Continuously refine automation coverage, performance, and reliability through experimentation and data-driven learning. - Engage with customers and support teams to understand real-world use cases and ensure quality automation reflects customer realities. - Evangelize quality engineering practices across the organization through documentation, workshops, and internal community leadership. Qualifications - 10+ years of software engineering or quality automation experience in large-scale, enterprise-grade systems. - Proven success designing and implementing automation frameworks across multiple platforms and architectures. - Deep knowledge of modern test automation frameworks (Cypress, Playwright, Selenium, Jest, etc.) and integration with CI/CD systems. - Strong background in software architecture, APIs, and event-driven systems, with an understanding of how to design for testability and observability. - Familiarity with AI-assisted testing tools or frameworks (e.g., code generation, model-based testing, or anomaly detection in test data). - Experience in cloud-native environments, ideally AWS, with understanding of infrastructure automation and quality validation at deployment. - Hands-on experience with Extreme Programming (XP) or similar collaborative practices such as TDD, pairing, and continuous delivery. - Exposure to event-driven architectures, microservices, and contract testing. - Strong understanding of data-driven quality metrics and DORA-style performance measures. - Experience working with cross-functional teams in complex environments requiring alignment, diplomacy, and influence. Requirements - Highly collaborative player-coach who leads by doing and inspires others through example. - Clear and empathetic communicator who can build credibility with engineers, architects, and business leaders alike. - Comfortable handling conflict and guiding discussions toward fact-based, data-driven decisions. - Skilled at building alignment across teams and driving adoption of new practices through influence rather than authority. - Strategic and structured thinker who can connect system design, testing, and customer outcomes into a coherent quality strategy. Mindset and Values - Believes in built-in quality, not quality as a phase or role. - Operates with a shift-left mindset, integrating quality early into design and development. - Customer-obsessed, motivated by understanding how people actually use the product. - AI-native engineer who leverages automation, learning systems, and tooling to scale quality. - Values clarity, feedback, and teamwork as essential to engineering excellence. - Continuous learner who experiments, iterates, and improves with humility and curiosity. What Success Looks Like - Testing and quality automation are deeply embedded in every stage of design and development. - Teams deliver features faster, with fewer defects and higher confidence in production. - Automated validation and observability reduce manual effort and improve response time to issues. - Engineers across the organization adopt consistent, reliable quality practices and own them. - Customers experience smoother, more reliable, and more intuitive interactions across CINC products. - The Principal Quality Automation Engineer is recognized as a trusted influencer and teacher, helping elevate engineering standards company-wide.
