Engineering Manager, Data Platform

Weekday (YC W21)

• Oversee and expand QuillBot’s data infrastructure to support product, AI, and growth. • Lead architectural decision-making and develop high-performance systems. • Manage a team of engineers to deliver a dependable and scalable data platform. • Treat the platform as an internal product, ensuring it meets usability needs. • Promote best practices in data engineering and system design. • Collaborate with Product, AI, Growth, and Marketing teams on data requirements.

Job Requirements

  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience in software or data engineering, including at least 2 years in engineering management.
  • Strong technical expertise and architectural judgment.
  • Extensive experience in building and scaling data platforms or distributed systems.
  • Hands-on knowledge of backend technologies such as Node.js and the JavaScript ecosystem.
  • Practical experience with systems like Spark, streaming technologies, and data pipelines.
  • Deep understanding of data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, and analytics systems.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and modern data stack tools.
  • Proven ability to make architectural trade-offs and lead major technical initiatives.
  • Excellent communication skills with a track record of effective cross-functional collaboration.

We are seeking a Engineering Project Manager to lead a large project or multiple project efforts, which may include subcontractors, high dollar value material content and multiple resources. Your responsibilities will include the management and coordination of the design, procurement, implementation, and commissioning phases of projects, including the commercial, financial, and technical success of the project. You will take a leadership role in developing project proposals and vetting project cost estimates.
