Responsibilities - Apply quantitative and qualitative methods to identify distributions, patterns, trends, and correlations/causality using behavioral health data (e.g., substance and opioid misuse outcomes, service capacity, performance indicators) and present results with team members - Extract, clean, and analyze data from multiple sources to evaluate the Health Resources and Services Administration's Rural Communities Opioid Response Program (RCORP) - Oversee and mentor junior analysts, providing guidance on analytical approaches, quality review of work products, and supporting their professional development - Conduct sophisticated analyses including sample weighting, complex survey analysis, and other advanced statistical techniques to ensure methodologically rigorous and representative findings - Interact and engage directly with federal government clients, including: - Presenting analytical findings - Responding to client inquiries - Supporting ongoing project communications to ensure deliverables align with client needs and expectations Qualifications - Master’s degree with at least 5 years of experience, or PhD with at least 2 years of experience, in a relevant field, such as public health, social sciences, public policy, or statistics. - Proficiency in statistical software packages (e.g., Python, R, SAS), qualitative analysis software packages (e.g., NVivo, ATLAS.ti, MAXQDA, Dedoose) and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau). - Experience in conducting research and data analysis using mixed methods to identify distributions, patterns, trends, correlation/causality and a holistic understanding of the data. - Experience with advanced analytical techniques such as sample weighting, complex survey analysis, and multivariate modeling. - Experience managing or mentoring junior analysts, including delegating tasks, reviewing work products, and providing constructive feedback. - Experience with analyzing behavioral health and/or opioid-related datasets (e.g., HRSA datasets, CDC WONDER, hospital claims) as well as open-ended data from surveys, interviews and focus groups. - Experience summarizing analytical findings into detailed reports, data briefs, and factsheets. - Strong problem-solving skills. - Strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting analytical findings to audiences of varying technical backgrounds. - Experience interacting with federal government clients or stakeholders, including presenting findings and managing client communications, is a plus. - Experience with survey programming (e.g., Alchemer, SurveyMonkey) is a plus. - Experience with proposal/grant writing is a plus. The LSAC education policy and applied research analyst is a key contributor to advancing LSAC’s mission by maintaining our commitment to rigorous, collaborative, practitioner-informed, and equity-minded research. The education policy and applied research analyst will support the practical use and impact of LSAC’s research and data insights. The scope of the work includes creating datasets, conducting analyses, and creatively writing about research and data related to the existing educational systems, processes, and policies along the prelaw to practice pathway. Using LSAC research and data, the education policy and research analyst will craft research-based recommendations and contribute to the development of new programs and tools. The education policy and applied research analyst reports to LSAC’s senior director of research and has no supervisory responsibilities.
